What’s next for DeFi in 2025?

Industry executives say Bitcoin staking, tokenized RWAs and AI agents will reshape the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) will hit an inflection point in 2025, as Bitcoin staking, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, and agentic artificial intelligence (AI) catalyze adoption, several industry executives told Cointelegraph.

In 2024, Bitcoin surpassed $100,000 per coin for the first time as investors poured more than $100 billion into spot BTC exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

“Bitcoin’s (BTC) all-time high will spark renewed interest in crypto from institutions and regulators alike and should reinvigorate the entire crypto sector in 2025,” Dean Tribble, CEO of layer-1 network Agoric Systems, told Cointelegraph.

2025 will be the year of AI agents, Web3 execs say

By 2025, more than 1 million AI agents could populate Web3, with staking and trading as likely early use cases, industry execs told Cointelegraph.

Artificial intelligence agents will transform Web3 in 2025, with cryptocurrency staking and onchain trading emerging as early use cases, industry executives told Cointelegraph.

Agentic AIs — machines pursuing complex goals autonomously — are already reshaping the digital economy, building Web3 applications, launching tokens and interacting with humans autonomously.

In 2025, “AI agents are expected to take on a more prominent role within decentralized communities,”  J.D. Seraphine, a Web3 AI developer at Raiinmaker, told Cointelegraph.

Nvidia sees bright future in agentic AI amid record Q3 revenue

The world’s most valuable company is focusing on AI systems, or agents designed to exhibit autonomous decision-making.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said his firm is focused on being at the forefront of agentic (autonomous) artificial intelligence, as it delivered record revenue in the third quarter.

“The age of AI is in full steam, propelling a global shift to Nvidia computing,” the company’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang said on Nov. 20, as the firm announced that its quarterly revenue was up 17% from the second quarter and 94% from a year earlier.

The lion’s share of that revenue, $35.1 billion, came from the company’s data centers, which help power the AI revolution. Huang anticipated continued strong demand for AI computing technologies, projecting Q4 revenue of $37.5 billion.
