LINK marines rejoice after Chainlink 2.0 brings a new roadmap and staking

LINK price broke its downtrend and rallied to $9 after the developers released a roadmap and announced that Chainlink 2.0 includes token staking.

Passive income opportunities are one of the biggest draws in the cryptocurrency ecosystem because it gives investors an easy opportunity to grow their portfolio size regardless of the day-to-day price action.

The latest token to get a bump in its price after announcing the upcoming implementation of staking is Chainlink (LINK), the decentralized oracle network that provides important off-chain information needed for the proper functioning of smart contracts.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that since bouncing off a low of $6.67 on June 4, the price of LINK has increased 35% to hit a daily high of $9.00 on June 7.

LINK/USDT 4-hour chart. Source: TradingView

Here’s a look at what the new developments in the Chainlink ecosystem that could be backing today's price rally.

Staking LINK has been years in the making

The ability to stake LINK has been a sought-after capability for several years now because Chainlink has consistently been the largest oracle project in the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem.

According to the announcement released by Chainlink, the overarching goal of staking on the network “is to give ecosystem participants, including node operators and community members, the ability to increase the security guarantees and user assurances of oracle services by backing them with staked LINK tokens.”

By staking LINK, the ability for nodes to receive jobs and earn fees on the Chainlink network will be enhanced while the ecosystem as a whole will benefit from an “increase in cryptoeconomic security and user assurances.”

Staking not only introduces an incentive to provide reliable data, but it allows for a penalty mechanism for underperforming nodes who fail to achieve the goal of consistently generating accurate oracle reports and delivering them to specific destinations in a timely manner.

Greater community participation

Another benefit of introducing staking is that it will help encourage a larger amount of the Chainlink community to get directly involved with the network by staking LINK to support the performance of oracle networks.

Getting more individuals involved with community monitoring directly helps to increase the decentralization of the Chainlink network and enables “a robust reputation system and slashing mechanism.”

The addition of staking is also expected to increase network adoption over time as new sources of rewards and an increase in the amount of protocol fees that are generated from non-emission-based sources further attracts more participants.

Proof of reserves

The new roadmap also introduces Chainlink Proof of Reserves (PoR).

With PoR, the cryptocurrency holdings of a company can be easily audited through an automated process that leverages the transparency of blockchains, smart contracts and oracles.

This real-time auditing of collateral helps to ensure that user funds are protected from “unforeseen fractional reserve practices and other fraudulent activity from off-chain custodians.” In doing so, PoR helps to bring a higher degree of transparency to the crypto ecosystem as a whole and it addresses some of the biggest complaints about how the current financial system operates.

Reserve Rights (RSR) builds momentum ahead of its long-awaited mainnet launch

Steady growth in its active users, the stability of the RSV stablecoin and investors’ anticipation over the upcoming mainnet launch could boost RSR price in the short-term.

Bitcoin was created to give the average person a peer-to-peer economic system and a store of wealth asset that could provide financial autonomy and access to banking, especially for people living in places where financial services are sparse or non-existent.

In the last five years, there have been a number of blockchain projects that aim to mirror Bitcoin's original mission and the growing popularity of stablecoins further highlights the need for alternative financial models. One project that is beginning to see a bit of momentum is Reserve Rights (RSR), a dual-token stablecoin platform comprised of the asset-backed Reserve Stablecoin (RSV) and the RSR token which helps to keep the price of RSV stable through a system of arbitrage opportunities.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that while the price of RSR has been beaten down along with the wider market over the past few months, the token has recently seen an uptick in trading volume which suggests a possible revival could be underway.

RSR/USDT 1-day chart. Source: TradingView

Three reasons for the increase in demand for the RSR token include the upcoming launch of the Reserve Rights mainnet, anticipation for token staking and the ability of RSV to maintain its peg during the recent market-wide volatility.

RSR mainnet launch

The biggest upcoming development for Reserve Rights that has its community excited is its August launch its mainnet.

Following the launch of Reserve Rights on the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet, the full capabilities of the protocol will be enabled including the ability for anyone to create stablecoins backed by baskets of ERC-20 tokens.

Along with being fully collateralized, stablecoins on the protocol (RTokens )can be insured as a way to help protect against collateral devaluation. RTokens are also able to generate revenue for their holders, which is the incentive for RSR holders to stake their RSR on a specific RToken.

Revenue for token holders comes from transaction fees, revenue shares with collateral token issuers and the yields from lending collateral tokens on-chain.

RSR staking

RSR's mainnet launch will also activate token staking. For most staking protocols that exist today, the main function is to lock tokens in a smart contract which prevents a holder from selling, but it doesn’t really have any additional function for the ecosystem.

Staking on the Reserve Protocol, in contrast, has a practical use for the protocol because pledging RSR tokens to a specific RToken helps to insure that token against collateral defaults. This means that should any of the collateral tokens default, staked RSR can be seized in order for the RToken to maintain its peg.

In exchange for taking this risk, RToken revenue is shared with RSR stakers in order to guarantee sufficient insurance. The yield offered by each RToken will depend on a variety of factors, including the market cap of the RToken, the revenue the token makes, the percentage of the revenue that is shared with RSR stakers and the total amount of RSR staked.

A growing community and successful stablecoin

A third factor bringing a boost to RSR is the continued growth of its community and the ability for its RSV stabelcoin to maintain its peg amid the recent market volatility.

During the height of the volatility in May when TerraUSD Classic (USTC) was collapsing, the lowest price RSV hit was $0.9923. That means that RSV held up better than a majority of stablecoins in the market.

RSV price. Source: CoinGecko

Along with RSV maintaining its peg, the Reserve Rights community also recently surpassed 600,000 users on the Reserve app, which now provides access to more than 18,000 merchants across Latin America who accept RSV and process a monthly volume in excess of $100 million.

The team behind the protocol is also currently working on adding support for users in Mexico, which has the potential to initiate the onboarding of a new cohort of RSV users.

3 key indicators traders use to determine when altcoin season begins

Clever traders frequently use these three indicators to pinpoint when an altcoin season could begin.

It's widely accepted that the fate of the cryptocurrency market depends largely on the performance of Bitcoin (BTC), which makes times like these for crypto traders who prefer to invest in altcoins.

When BTC price is down, altcoins tend to follow, but as a bottoming process begins, altcoins tend to perk up during Bitcoin's consolidation phases and this typically leads to a call for an altcoin season. While Bitcoin's current dip below $30,000 shows that it's a bit premature to call for an altseason, analysts are still charting a variety of different outcomes that point to an altcoin season. Let's have a look.

ETH/BTC price action could be an early indicator

Insight into the possibility of an altcoin season using the ETH/BTC chart as an indicator was discussed by analyst and pseudonymous Twitter user PlanDeFi, who posted the following chart comparing the 2016 to 2017 performance of ETH/BTC against the pair's performance in 2021–2022.

ETH/BTC in 2016/2017 vs. ETH/BTC in 2021/2022. Source: Twitter

PlanDeFi said,

“Looks damn similar, right? Accumulation>Breakout>Ascending Channel>Breakout. The market is bigger now — it just takes longer.”

Based on the projection provided, the next altseason could kick off sometime after the start of July and it has the potential to extend through the end of 2022.

A 2017 fractal suggests an altseason is imminent

Further evidence that the market may be approaching an inflection point was provided by El_Crypto_Prof, who posted the following chart looking at the history of the altcoin market capitalization.

Altcoin market cap. Source: Twitter

El_Crypto_Prof said,

“When it comes to altcoins, I can see the following scenario playing out. There are just too many similarities with the previous cycle. RSI also looks incredible. The next wave up will leave many behind.”

Related: Fed money printer goes into reverse: What does it mean for crypto?

The market is firmly in "Bitcoin Season"

While fractals are pleasing to the eye and give hope to disillusioned traders, most fail to materialize and they are not accurate analysis methods to rely on when trading.

The Altseason Indicator provides a more metrics-based method for predicting when the market is in "Bitcoin season" and "altcoin season."

Altseason indicator. Source: Blockchain Center

According to the chart above, it does not appear as though an altseason is likely to happen anytime soon because the metric is currently providing a readout of 24, while the level needed to signify an altseason is 75.

Based on the past performance of the index, it has taken a minimum of two to three months for it to climb from the area indicating that it is Bitcoin season to the altcoin season level. Current projections, according the the indicator, suggest that an altcoin season might not start until August or September 2022.

WEMIX gains 200%+ after stablecoin and boosted staking rewards announcement

New partnerships, a mainnet upgrade and plans to launch a stablecoin appear to have triggered a 200% rally in WEMIX price.

Blockchain-based gaming, also known as GameFi, is an up-and-coming sector that could potentially be one of the primary catalysts for kickstarting the mass adoption of blockchain technology.

WEMIX, a gaming protocol that operates on the Klaytn network, aims to get in on the GameFi revolution and this week, the project's native token (WEMIX) rallied even as the wider market continued to sell-off.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that since hitting a low of $1.27 on May 12, WEMIX price climbed 269% to hit a daily high at $4.70 on May 25 as its 24-hour trading volume increased to $652 million.

WEMIX/USDT 1-day chart. Source: TradingView

Three reasons for the price reversal for WEMIX are the upcoming launch of WEMIX 3.0, a series of project launches and partnership agreements, and the introduction of lockup staking for token holders.

WEMIX 3.0

The main development attracting attention to WEMIX is the protocol's planned mainnet launch, which is scheduled to take place on June 15.

WEMIX 3.0 will be an Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) compatible public chain that will utilize a stake-based proof-of-authority (SPoA) consensus algorithm.

As part of the mainnet launch, WEMIX will also be introducing the WEMIX Dollar (WEMIX) as the native stablecoin of the ecosystem.

WEMIX will be a 100% collateralized stablecoin, backed by USD Coin (USDC) and off-chain assets like fiat currencies.

New partnerships boost excitement

May has been a busy month for the WEMIX protocol after multiple games launched or announced their upcoming launch dates on the network. New additions include Crypto Ball Z, Four Gods and Every Farm, as well as the onboarding of the SpoLive sports prediction game.

Along with protocol launches, WEMIX announced several strategic investments including being the lead investor in the Old Fashion Research (OFR) crypto fund as well as an investment in an U.S.-based augmented reality metaverse startup called Jadu.

On May 17, the team behind WEMIX also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam Blockchain Association.

Polkadot parachains spike after the launch of a $250M aUSD stablecoin fund

Polkadot parachains posted double-digit gains after partnership announcements, protocol integrations and a stablecoin development fund caught the attention of the crypto investors.

Crypto prices have been exploring new lows for weeks and currently it's unclear what it will take to reverse the trend. Despite the downtrend, cryptocurrencies within the Polkadot (DOT) ecosystem began to rally on May 24 and have managed to maintain gains ranging from 10% to 25%, a possible sign that certain sub-sectors of the market are on the verge of a breakout.

Here’s a look at three Polkadot ecosystem protocols that have seen their token prices trend higher in recent days.

Acala launches a $250 million aUSD ecosystem fund

Acala (ACA) is the leading decentralized finance (DeF) platform on the Polkadot network, primarily due to the launch of aUSD, the first native stablecoin in the Polkadot ecosystem.

Following the collapse of Terra's LUNA and TerraUSD (UST), traders were searching for "safer" stablecoin options.

On March 23, ACA rallied after the project announced the launch of a $250 million "aUSD Ecosystem Fund" that aims to support early-stage startups planning to build strong stablecoin use cases on any Polkadot or Kusama parachain.

Acala also announced the launch of a kickoff rewards program that has set aside 1 million ACA tokens as rewards for LCDOT/DOT, LCDOT/aUSD, ACA/aUSD and aUSD/LDOT liquidity providers.

Following the aUSD ecosystem fund announcement, the price of ACA spiked 31% from a low of $0.364 on May 23 to a daily high of $0.478 on May 24.

Astar rallies after revealing a partnership with Microsoft

The Astar (ASTR) network is a smart contract hub for the Polkadot community that supports Ethereum (ETH), WebAssembly and other layer-two solutions like zk-Rollups.

Since the Polkadot relay chain doesn't offer Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) support, Astar was created to become a multi-chain smart contract platform capable of supporting multiple blockchains and virtual machines so that they can integrate with the Polkadot ecosystem.

On May 24, it was revealed that AstridDAO, an Astar-based protocol responsible for minting the collateralized BAI stablecoin, had signed a partnership with Microsoft to become part of Microsoft for Startups, an initiative “which removes traditional barriers to building a company with exclusive access to technology, coaching, marketing and support."

If successful, the partnership should accelerate AstridDAO’s go-to-market speed and maximize its market influence. It also includes up to $350,000 worth of benefits through Github Enterprise, Microsoft Teams and Azure credits.

Following the partnership announcement, the price of ASTR spiked 61% from $0.055 to a daily high of $0.0888.

Uniswap v3 to deploy on Moonbeam

Moonbeam (GLMR) is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract parachain on Polkadot that streamlines the use of Ethereum developer tools to build or redeploy Solidity projects in a substrate-based environment.

Interoperability with the Ethereum network is a highly sought-after capability since a majority of decentralized applications currently operate on Ethereum along with a majority of the value in decentralized finance.

The benefit of EVM interoperability was demonstrated with the May 24 announcement that a proposal to deploy Uniswap (UNI) v3 on the Moonbeam network passed, meaning that the top decentralized exchange in the crypto ecosystem will soon be accessible to Moonbeam users.

Following the announcement, the price of GLMR climbed 29% from a low of $1.15 on May 23 to a daily high at $1.48 on May 24 as its 24-hour trading volume increased 106% to $75.3 million.

fUSD stablecoin launch and rumors of Cronje’s return send Fantom (FTM) price higher

FTM price recovers from its May 12 low after the launch of the fUSD stablecoin and the possible return of Andre Cronje.

After a strong 2,000% rally in early 2021, Fantom (FTM) price collapsed alongside multiple altcoins and even though the blockchain has an impressive capability, it has yet to find mass adoption due to the lack of a compelling use case. FTM price hit an all-time high at $3.46, only to collapse to its pre-bull market lows under $0.25 after the failure of the Solidly DeFi project and the departure of developer Andre Cronje.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that since dropping to $0.238, FTM has rallied 119.23% to $0.5216 on May 23.

FTM/USDT 4-hour chart. Source: TradingView

Three reasons for the uptrend in FTM price are the launch of the first native stablecoin on the Fantom network, new protocol upgrades and partnership announcements, which bring new functionality to the network, and speculation that Andre Cronje is working with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols on Fantom.

Fantom launches its first native stablecoin

The most notable development to occur in the Fantom ecosystem in the past few weeks was the release of fUSD, the first native stablecoin on the network.

The launch of fUSD comes on the heels of the collapse of TerraUSD and looks to capture some of the capital flight from algorithmic stablecoin by offering an over-collateralized alternative.

On May 20, the Fantom Foundation released an update outlining the maximum collateral factor and minting cap for each supported form of collateral. The foundation also set the fUSD staking reward at 11.3%

The update also included details on Fantom liquid staking, setting a global cap of 150 million staked Fantom (sFTM), removing validators for the list of those eligible to mint sFTM and setting a loan-to-value (LTV) ratio of FTM at 90% for the purposes of minting sFTM.

New partnerships improve sentiment for FTM

A handful of recent protocol updates and new partnerships have also helped to bring a boost in momentum to Fantom, including the launch of Snapsync, which allows new nodes to quickly join the network.

With the integration of Snapsync, the time it takes for new nodes to synch could be reduced from 24 to seven hours, helping to enhance network reliability, improve scalability and create a greater degree of decentralization.

Fantom has also announced that it is currently in the process of launching Gitcoin on the Fantom network to simplify the process of obtaining grants to develop in the Fantom ecosystem.

Fantom also partnered with Unmarshal and XP.Network. Unmarshal is a Web3 infrastructure provider that will integrate its indexing services with the Fantom protocol to give developers easy access to organized and granular on-chain data.

Through the partnership with XP.Network, Fantom users will be able to bridge nonfungible tokens (NFTs) between Ethereum (ETH), BNB Smart Chain (BNB), Elrond (EGLD), Aurora (AURORA), Tron (TRX), Avalanche (AVAX) and Velas (VLX).

Did Andre Cronje return?

Another factor, albeit speculative, bringing a boost FTM price is speculation that well-known DeFi developer Andre Cronje could be contributing toward DeFi development on the Fantom network.

The speculation started when Cronje submitted an fUSD optimization proposal that designed to solve a major depegging issue with the stablecoin on May 20 . A Fantom wallet that is believed to belong to Cronje has also added more than 100 million FTM over the past two weeks.

VORTECS™ data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro began to detect a bullish outlook for FTM on May 20, prior to the recent price rise.

3 red flags that signal a crypto project may be misleading investors

The challenges faced by Terra, Wonderland and a handful of other DeFi projects exposed the need for investors to do more research and avoid cult personalities.

Satoshi Nakamoto left a large pair of shoes to fill after releasing the code for Bitcoin (BTC) to the world, helping to establish the network, then vanishing without so much as a trace.

Over the years, the crypto ecosystem has seen many developers and protocol creators rise in stature to become crypto messiahs for faithful holders who eventually have their best-laid plans end in catastrophe when the protocol is hacked, rugged or abandoned by whimsical developers.

2022 is hardly halfway complete and the year has already seen a particularly bad stretch of good intentions gone awry, which have collectively helped plunge the market into bear-market territory. Here’s a closer look at each of these instances to help provide insight into how similar outcomes can be avoided in the future.

Some developers are anonymous for a reason

Satoshi may have successfully remained anonymous while launching Bitcoin, but in most instances since then, having anonymous developers has turned out to be a red flag.

Many anonymous developers cite personal safety reasons for taking this route. While this is a valid reason in some cases, sometimes anon developers are hiding from previous misdoings or pre-planning to cover their tracks in the case of future offenses.

A flagrant example of this was Squid Game (SQUID), a Netflix-show-inspired memecoin that rallied 45,000% within a few days after launch, only for traders to realize that they were unable to sell the tokens on any exchange.

Investors eventually discovered that all the developers were anonymous and all social media channels were blocked from comments.

The crypto community has grown to be rather distrustful of anonymous developers and this can be seen in the negative reaction to the revelation that the founder of the Azuki nonfungible token (NFT) project was involved with three other NFT projects that were ultimately abandoned, leaving their holders with little to show except worthless jpegs.

Another instance of an anonymous developer going rogue occurred in 2022 when it was revealed that the anonymous Wonderland (TIME) treasury manager @0xSifu turned out to be an alleged financial criminal, along with QuadrigaCX co-founder Michael Patryn.

The revelation of this connection resulted in the collapse of several popular projects including Wonderland and Popsicle Finance, while a significant amount of criticism was directed at Abracadabra.Money creator Daniele Sestagalli.

Prior to the @0xSifu revelation, all three protocols were seeing increased adoption, but , each protocol is a mere shadow of its former success.

Having anonymous developers removes accountability from the equation and is increasingly becoming a red flag when dealing with multi-million dollar cryptocurrency protocols.

Beware of cult personalities

Finance is no stranger to cult personalities and crypto is not immune to this phenomenon.

Long-time crypto pundits will recall Roger Ver being called “Bitcoin Jesus” and hileading the charge to fork Bitcoin Core and create Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Billionaire Dan Larimer also comes to mind, and investors will recall his helping EOS (EOS) raise $4 billion during the initial coin offering (ICO) boom of 2017 to 2018. In each instance, it was a fervent flock of followers that propelled each project forward.

Neither BCH nor EOS managed to reclaim their all-time highs during the 2021 bull market despite all the hype about their future when first launched. This is possibly because a portion of the hype is centered around the personalities behind the projects.

A more recent example includes the collapse of Fantom ecosystem token prices after decentralized finance (DeFi) developer Andre Cronje deactivated his Twitter account and informed the community that he was leaving the crypto space entirely.

Cronje had become so popular that many people would buy a token just because he was involved, and when he left, many of these investors dumped their holdings, which negatively affected the tokens' prices.

While Cronje was doing what he thought was right and had no ill intentions toward the community, his actions appear to have negatively affected the crypto market due to his popularity within the community and the dedication of his followers.

The main takeaway is to be vigilant when a developer is seen as incapable of doing wrong and remember that cult-like followings can have outcomes that ripple beyond their community.

Related: Court documents reveal Do Kwon dissolved Terraform Labs Korea days before LUNA crash

Decentralization requires involving the community

Another red flag to be on the lookout for ar decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and DeFi protocols that operate in a manner that appears to be more centralized than their name would suggest.

It’s common for many protocols to claim that they are decentralized, yet they rely on centralized service providers like Amazon Web Service to ensure that they function properly.

Another pertinent example is when a project that claims to offer token holders governance rights makes a major protocol decision without consulting the community for feedback and approval.

The move by Terra (LUNA) to add BTC to its treasury as collateral for the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin made headlines and was lauded by many, but the move was never put to a vote within the Terra community to see what token holders thought.

While there is a good chance that the plan would have been approved and the collapse of Terra still would have occurred, the blame might have fallen more on the community and less on Do Kwon, the project’s leader. It’s also worth mentioning that Do Kown had developed quite the cult following and was frequently insulting a variety of people on Twitter.

One of the main tenets of the cryptocurrency sector is adherence to decentralization and failure to do so often leads to a compromised network and dissatisfied investors.

20% drop in the S&P 500 puts stocks in a bear market, Bitcoin and altcoins follow

Recession fears mount as a 20% decline in the S&P 500 places stock in a bear market, increasing the chance that BTC and altcoins will make new lows.

Whoever coined the phrase “sell in May and go away” had brilliant insight and the performance of crypto and stock markets over the past three weeks has shown that the expression still rings true.

May 20 has seen a pan selloff across all asset classes, leaving traders with few options to escape the carnage as inflation concerns and rising interest rates continue to dominate the headlines.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that the price of Bitcoin (BTC) taking on water below $29,000 and traders worry that losing this level will ensure a visit to the low $20,000s over the coming week.

As reported by Cointelegraph, some analysts warn that BTC could possibility decline to $22,700 based on its historical price performance following a death cross.

Further evidence of muted expectations from traders can be found in the put/call ratio for BTC open interest, which hit a 12-month high of 0.72 on May 18 according to the cryptocurrency research firm Delphi Digital.

Delphi Digital said,

“A high put/call ratio indicates that investors are speculating whether Bitcoin will continue to sell off, or it could mean investors are hedging their portfolios against a downward move.”

Stocks enter bear market territory

May 20 brought more pain to the traditional markets as the S&P 500 fell another 1.62%, marking a more than 20% decline from its January 2022 all-time high and further stoking recession fears. If the index manages to close the day down 20% from the all-time-high, that would officially put the benchmark index in bear market territory.

Socios fan tokens rally 40%+ after Chiliz rolls out mainnet upgrade and token burn plan

A new exchange listing, mainnet launch and competitive token burn mechanism led to a sharp rally in Socios fan tokens.

In times of high stress and market turmoil, sports entertainment has served as a valuable escape for people around the world as they get a chance to root for their favorite players and teams while briefly forgetting about the worries of the world.

Amid the ongoing market volatility and falling crypto prices, sports fans have cause to rejoice as multiple fan tokens have bucked the downtrend on May 18 to post 40% plus gains.

Top 7 coins with the highest 24-hour price change. Source: Cointelegraph Markets Pro

Here’s a look at the recent developments that have helped propel Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Juventus (JUV), FC Barcelona (BAR) and other fan tokens to the top of the charts on May 18.

Chiliz Testnet Phase 2

The biggest driver of momentum for fan tokens appears to be coming from new developments on the Chiliz protocol, which operates Socios, a blockchain-based sports entertainment platform.

On May 17, Chiliz revealed the launch of Jalapeno, the second phase of its Scoville testnet, which is part of the broader launch of the Chiliz mainnet.

A few of the new features to be tested in Phase 2 include the launch of PepperSwap, which will provide a decentralized exchange and fan token test surveys, which allow token holders to begin participating in surveys and governance votes on the protocol.

Eventually, users will be able to interact with the community of specific fan tokens and vote on developments that they would like to see for that club through fan token surveys, which is one of the features in which many investors were initially interested.

Fan tokens list at a new exchange

A new listing at BitPanda could be another reason why fan tokens rallied on May 18.

According to BitPanda's Twitter, at least seven fan tokens listed on May 18.

Token burns reduce supply

Another factor providing a boost to fan token prices is the Chiliz Head2Head burn competition which burns a portion of the fan token circulating supply based on the results of live matches between clubs.

Based on this design, the Head2Head burn mechanism will affect the tokenomics of a project over time by helping to reduce the circulating supply of tokens, which has the potential to result in a price increase if demand stays elevated.

It also provides a way to see the performance of a team reflected in its token supply, with better performing teams seeing more of their token supply burned. If the Head2Head burn process proves effective, it could potentially increase the value of certain teams due to the reduced circulating supply.

Winston Churchill’s statement to “never let a crisis go to waste” can be applied across many aspects of society, including the recent carnage seen in the crypto market. Last week's volatility is likely to have newer investors and those who took on heavy losses questioning the future of the burgeoning asset class, but in every bear trend there is a silver lining.

One platform that appears to be capitalizing on the void created by TerraUSD’s (UST) collapse is Beefy Finance (BIFI), a multi-chain yield optimizing decentralized finance protocol.

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that after hitting a low of $387.80 on May 14, BIFI spiked 168.13% to hit a daily high of $1,040 on May 16 amids a 684% increase in its 24-hour trading volume.

Three reasons for the sudden spike in activity for BIFI are the increase in the liquidity pool options available for yield farming, a new integration with Oasis Network and the launch of 12 new vaults.

Stablecoin yields get a notable boost

The collapse of Terra (LUNA), UST and the 20% yield offered for UST deposits on Anchor Protocol (ANC) has opened the door for protocols like Beefy Finance to capture users and funds that were set adrift.

Beefy Finance has taken advantage of this opportunity by upgrading several stablecoin vaults to offer higher yields including the Curve stablecoin liquidity pool on Arbitrum, which now offers a yield of 34.9%.

The platform has also integrated the Tron network's USDD stablecoin and depositors can earn 62.5% APY on the quad stablecoin pool comprised of USDD/BUSD/USDT/USDC.

Beefy Finance expands its ecosystem

As the cryptocurrency ecosystem slowly progresses toward a multi-chain future, Beefy Finance has also benefited from expanding the list of networks the protocol supports and the most recent addition of the Oasis Network brings the total number of supported chains supported to 15.

The integration with the Oasis Network makes Beefy Finance one of the most cross-chain compatible DeFi protocols in the ecosystem and includes support for the most active blockchains including Ethereum (ETH), BNB Smart Chain (BNB), Polygon (MATIC), Avalanche (AVAX) and Fantom (FTM).

New vaults attract fresh liquidity

A third factor attracting investors to Beefy Finance is the launch of 12 new vaults within the last week.

The new vaults include support for assets from Stader.Fantom, an Oasis-based DeFi protocol called YuzuSwap, the Aurora-based protocol Trisolaris and Step.App (FITFI), which operates on Avalanche.

While the price of BIFI has managed to rally higher over the past week, it remains to be seen if the gains can hold and whether the platform will continue to see a rising TVL, especially if the current attractive yields begin to diminish.
