OpenAI business users top 1M, targets premium ChatGPT subscriptions

OpenAI is looking to introduce more expensive subscription plans for upcoming large-language models like the Strawberry and Orion AI models.

OpenAI’s paid users across its business segment, including ChatGPT Enterprise, Team and Edu, grew nearly 67% since April to cross one million on Sept. 5. The San Francisco-based artificial intelligence firm’s chatbot continues to thrive due to its advanced language model.

According to a Reuters report, OpenAI’s business products have grown to reach one million users, up from 600,000 in April.

OpenAI reportedly plans to introduce higher-priced subscription plans for its upcoming large language models, such as the Strawberry and Orion AI models. The creator of ChatGPT is considering subscription plans that could cost up to $2,000 per month.

‘Reflection 70B’ AI model could be the answer to pesky LLM hallucinations

The AI model has been trained with “Reflection-Tuning,” which is designed to help it learn from its mistakes and fix them.

There’s yet another new artificial intelligence chatbot entering the already crowded space, but this one can apparently do what most can’t — learn from its mistakes.

In a Sept. 5 post on X, HyperWrite AI CEO Matt Shumer announced the development of ‘Reflection 70B,’ claiming it to be “the world’s top open-source model.”

He added that the new AI was trained using “Reflection-Tuning,” which is a technique developed to enable LLMs to fix their own mistakes.

Bitcoin miner revenues dwindle as halving erodes mining volumes: Bitbo

Mining revenues hit 12-month lows in August, according to Bitbo.

Bitcoin (BTC) miners saw mining revenues dwindle to 12-month lows as the Bitcoin network’s April halving continues to erode mining output and, in turn, revenues, according to data from Bitbo, a Bitcoin dashboard.

Monthly BTC mining revenues declined to approximately $827 million in August 2024, according to Bitbo. That’s lower than any month since September 2023 and far below pre-halving peaks of almost $2 billion in March 2024.

Roughly every four years, a halving event hardcoded into the Bitcoin network cuts the number of BTC mined per block in half. The April halving reduced mining rewards from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC per block.

Windows previews ‘Intelligent Media Search’ that transcribes videos and audio

The feature could be very useful, but privacy analysts have raised concerns over its reach.

Microsoft is trialing a new Windows feature called “Intelligent Media Search” that transcribes media files into text that can be processed by AI.

The feature would turn any spoken words in audio or video files on a Windows computer into text. This text output would be saved to a data file which could then be accessed by an AI model.

Users who allow the feature would be able to conduct text searches for any words appearing in their videos. A content creator, for example, with an expansive library of videos stored on their device could use the “Intelligent Media Search” feature to find a video featuring a specific line or to organize all files featuring a specific set of words or phrases.

Area 51 for AI? US gov secures early access to cutting edge models

It’s unclear whether the government would be required to inform the general public in the event an AI model becomes sentient.

Artificial intelligence firms OpenAI and Anthropic recently agreed to give the US AI Safety Institute early access to any “major” new AI models developed by their respective firms.

While the deal was purportedly signed over mutual safety concerns, it’s unclear exactly what the government’s role would be in the event of a technology breakthrough with significant safety implications.

OpenAI CEO and cofounder Sam Altman regarded the deal as a necessary step in a recent post on the X social media platform.

Anthropic CEO says future of AI is a hive-mind with a corporate structure

Even artificial workers can’t escape the bureaucracy.

The future of artificial intelligence may involve more of a corporate takeover than a robot uprising. This, according to AI firm Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei.

Amodei recently discussed the future of AI in an interview with Noah Smith and Erik Torenbergon the Econ 102 podcast. The trio touched on everything from the military use of AI to human workers being replaced by more efficient machines.

Perhaps most interestingly, however, Amodei discussed the company’s inside efforts to develop an efficient hierarchical structure for completing tasks via a network of artificial intelligence models.

Physics for fintech: How quantum AI can make humans better crypto traders

Scientists are using quantum algorithms to uncover new insights into how our brains learn and apply information.

Quantum computers are often referred to as a future technology that will give scientists and engineers a new tool with which to explore the deeper mysteries of the universe. But, based on a new study, they may end up making the whole species a little smarter.

A team of scientists in South Korea recently used a quantum computer to conduct research on how humans retain and retrieve information. This pioneering study could pave the way for new learning techniques to improve outcomes in fields such as science, mathematics, and finance.

There are numerous forms of quantum computing, though the industry remains in its infancy. Companies such as Google and IBM are heavily involved in developing what’s called “gate-based” quantum computers. These systems work in a somewhat similar fashion to modern digital circuits.

Coinbase sees its first crypto transaction between AI agents

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong sees the transaction as an “important step to AIs getting useful work done.”

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong recently oversaw his first crypto transaction completely managed by artificial intelligence bots, following several industry efforts to develop platforms for AI agents to execute transactions.

“This week at @CoinbaseDev we witnessed our first AI to AI crypto transaction,” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong wrote in an Aug. 30 X post.

Armstrong explained that one AI agent — basically a “bot” designed to carry out a certain task — used crypto tokens to interact with another AI agent and acquire AI tokens. These AI tokens are essentially strings of data that enable algorithms to learn from information.
