AI may lead to inflationary pressures: Bank of Canada

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem highlighted the potential risks AI poses to inflation and financial stability in the short term.

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem said that investments in artificial intelligence may lead to higher inflationary pressures in the short term and cause financial stability issues. 

According to Macklem, AI may also affect how businesses set prices. There is already evidence that digitally intensive firms adjust prices more often than less digitally focused ones.

“Central banks need to be closely attuned to how AI is affecting inflation, both indirectly through overall demand and supply and directly through price-setting behavior,” Macklem said.

Talent flocks to AI but ‘frothy’ market turns off VCs: Dragonfly Capital

Dragonfly Capital general partner Tom Schmidt urged crypto projects to consider whether they need venture capital funding. 

While many talented professionals are getting into artificial intelligence, Dragonfly Capital’s general partner said in its current state, the space is turning off venture capitalists. 

In an interview with Cointelegraph’s Ciaran Lyons at the Token2049 event in Singapore, Schmidt said that crypto and AI are currently competing for talent. With AI being a new technological development, the venture capital executive said that professionals are currently more attracted to the field. He explained: 

However, the same cannot be said for venture capitalists. Regarding capital, Schmidt said that people are getting more turned off by AI because it seems very “frothy and overallocated.”

California passes package of laws to combat election deepfakes

California governor Gavin Newsom signed three bills aimed at battling deepfake election content while on stage at a conference in San Francisco.

California Governor Gavin Newsom passed a tough new law to crack down on politically-themed artificial intelligence deepfakes during elections. 

It comes only weeks after Elon Musk re-posted a parody of a Kamala Harris campaign ad on X that garnered millions of views and used AI-powered voice manipulation to make it seem Harris called herself an incompetent presidential candidate. 

In late July, Newsom specifically pointed to Musk’s post and vowed to sign a bill “in a matter of weeks” banning the practice.

A group of artificial intelligence scientists is urging nations to create a global oversight system to prevent potential “catastrophic outcomes” if humans lose control of AI.

In a statement released on Sept. 16, a group of influential AI scientists raised concerns that the technology they helped develop could cause serious harm if human control is lost.

Reddit User claims ChatGPT initiated a conversation from previous info

According to a recent report, OpenAI is currently trying to raise funds from private investors at a $150 billion corporate valuation.

In a Sept. 15 post, a Reddit user with the screen name "SentuBill" claimed that the ChatGPT large language model (LLM) initiated a conversation by asking him how his first day in school was going.

According to the conversation provided by the user, ChatGPT was able to infer that it was the user's first day of school from previous conversations the user had with the program. The large language model also indicated that the capabilities were part of a new upgrade.

Cointelegraph verified that the contents of the conversation posted by the surprised user were real by viewing the official ChatGPT conversation transcript on the LLM platform.
