US lagging behind in global stablecoin adoption — Chainalysis

Growing demand for US dollar-backed stablecoins and regulatory uncertainty in the US are the key reasons for stablecoins thriving in other jurisdictions.

The United States has seen record Bitcoin activity since the launch of spot BTC exchange-traded funds (ETFs). However, stablecoin adoption in the US has slowed in 2024 compared to global markets, according to an Oct. 17 report from Chainalysis.

US markets have recorded a significant shift in stablecoin activity this year, with the share of stablecoin transactions on US-regulated exchanges dropping from roughly 50% in 2023 to below 40% in 2024.

In contrast, the share of stablecoin transactions on non-US regulated platforms has surged since 2023, breaking 60% in 2024, according to Chainalysis’ latest report on crypto adoption trends in North America.

DHS says it thwarted more than 500 crypto ransom attacks in 3 years

The US Department of Homeland Security reported that it has disrupted hundreds of ransom attacks since its formation in 2021.

United States Department of Homeland Security investigators say they’ve thwarted hundreds of ransomware cyberattacks, often before they occurred, and have seized billions of extorted crypto since 2021.

US agencies were the top targets, accounting for 21% of the disrupted hacks, more than any business sector, Mike Prado, the deputy assistant director of the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Cyber Crimes Center, told Bloomberg in an Oct. 4 report.

The division has disrupted 537 ransomware attacks since it was formed in 2021 and has traced and seized $4.3 billion worth of crypto from exchanges and hackers’ devices that had been stolen through extortion payments.

Binance CEO Richard Teng said the company has continued to explore every legal and political avenue to bring Gambaryan home as his health deteriorates by the day. 

Binance CEO Richard Teng says his team has been working “across the clock” to bring Tigran Gambaryan home to the United States as the exec’s health declines by the day.

“There’s no need to hold our staff. He’s held unjustly, unfairly,” Teng told Cointelegraph at the Token2049 conference in Singapore on Sept. 19.

“It is distressing for all of us,” said Teng. “Especially for the families. For us at Binance, this is a top priority for us. We have a task force internally working across the clock, looking at different avenues from legal to political.”
