Crypto sees a historic moment as Bitcoin crosses the symbolic $100,000 threshold.

Once dismissed as a fringe asset of cypherpunks and tech enthusiasts, Bitcoin (BTC) has climbed through milestone after milestone, from $1 in 2011 to $1,000 in 2013, and now to the coveted six-figure mark in 2024.

Bitcoin’s latest ascent speaks to its evolution from a curious experiment to a legitimate global financial asset.

But the journey to $100,000 was far from a field of green candles. The cryptocurrency has been declared “dead” more times than one can count, yet it rose from its grave every time.

SEC defends amended suit against Binance, CZ over securities claims

In the latest round of the SEC suit against Binance, Binance.US and CZ, the agency has largely repeated itself in a form more acceptable to the court.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has responded to a motion for the dismissal of its amended suit against cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and Binance.US and former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao alleging they operated an unregistered securities exchange. The allegation is based on the sale of ten cryptocurrencies on the secondary market intermediated with the exchange’s BNB coin.

The SEC filed an amended complaint after Judge Amy Berman Jackson in the US District Court for the District of Columbia questioned the reasoning in a complaint making the same allegations. The Binance exchanges and Zhao filed a motion for the dismissal of the complaint on Nov. 4.

The SEC’s Memorandum of Law opposing the motion to dismiss responds to their claim that the SEC complaint does not plausibly produce facts to satisfy the Howey test. The memorandum discusses each prong of the test and reiterates the SEC’s position on them.

Bitcoin range consolidation a ‘healthy next step’ before BTC attempt at $100K

Bitcoin price cooled off at the start of December, but several bullish catalysts support investors' belief that $100,000 BTC is around the corner.

Bitcoin’s price correction extended into a second day as BTC briefly slipped below $93,600 on Dec. 3, but data suggests that an assortment of market participants are keen to buy the dips.

While some traders may be revising their short-term targets and choosing to take profits, Bitcoin price appears to be consolidating by taking a breather after November’s stellar 37% gain.

After an unprecedented parabolic $26,000 gain in November to what some traders deem a psychological hurdle at the $100,000 mark, a period of consolidation where BTC can build some market structure in terms of a defined range with clear support and resistance levels would be a healthy next step.
