Blockchain identity platform Fractal ID has published a postmortem outlining the data breach that the company suffered on July 14. The breach has since been traced back to a 2022 incident where an employee reused a compromised password.
According to Fractal ID, the compromised account belonged to an operator with the platform for three years and had admin rights. This allowed the attacker to bypass internal data privacy systems, though system monitoring helped lock out the attacker within 29 minutes.
The operator’s failure to follow operational security policies and training, along with the reuse of credentials from past hacks, facilitated the breach.
Fractal ID gave notice that an attacker had gained access to an operator’s account, leading to the leak of a small percentage of users’ personal data.
Blockchain identity platform Fractal ID suffered a data breach on July 14, according to a notice published on Fractal’s website on July 17. Partners of the platform include the payment system Gnosis Pay, decentralized finance app Acala, the proof of personhood project Polygon ID, the social media platform Lukso, and other Web3 applications.
In its statement, Fractal did not identify which partners were affected by the breach, if any. Some users on X reported receiving emails from the Gnosis Pay team alerting of the breach and warning them to “be cautious of unsolicited communications.”
Fractal stated that the breach only affected “approximately 0.5% of the Fractal ID user base.”

Compliance platform Au10tix said that although a credential was leaked, there is no evidence that it was used to obtain customer data, and Coinbase said it is unaware of any breach.
On June 27, crypto exchange Coinbase denied any knowledge of a breach of its customers’ data associated with the Au10tix compliance platform. The statement follows a June 26 report that claimed Au10tix employee credentials had been leaked on Telegram. The Au10tix website shows the Coinbase logo, seemingly implying that Coinbase is one of its clients.
“We are not aware of any Coinbase data exposure at this time and will continue to monitor the situation,” a Coinbase representative told Cointelegraph.
Au10tix is an identity verification platform that claims to be used by Fiverr, TikTok, Uber, X, Coinbase and many other platforms. It stores users’ photo IDs and other identifying information on behalf of the platforms it serves.
