ai16z’s Eliza Labs ships white paper for Web3-native AI agents

The company envisions a world of AI agents, like Eliza, trading autonomously onchain.

Eliza Labs, the developer behind ai16z, has published a white paper outlining a vision for Web3-native artificial intelligence agents, the Web3 AI project said on Jan. 14.

The 20-page document details ai16z’s AI agent toolkit, Eliza, which aims to serve as an “ideal agentic framework that can seamlessly integrate web3 applications into AI agent functionalities.”

Launched in 2024, Eliza is designed to support AI agents capable of “reading and writing blockchain data, interacting with smart contracts, and much more,” the white paper says.

ai16z mulls tokenomics shakeup, L1 launch

The agentic AI project’s contributors envision an AI-focused layer-1 with AI16Z as the native currency.

Agentic artificial intelligence platform ai16z is mulling launching its own layer-1 (L1) blockchain network as part of a broader tokenomics overhaul.

The project is considering creating a platform similar to pump.fun for launching AI agents, according to a post in its governance forum. It is also contemplating “[p]ositioning ai16z as an L1 blockchain for AI,” the post said.

Contributors of ai16z envision the AI agent launchpad as “the primary way to implement ‘flywheel’ tokenomics that drive value to $ai16z,” the project’s native token.

2025 will be the year of AI agents, Web3 execs say

By 2025, more than 1 million AI agents could populate Web3, with staking and trading as likely early use cases, industry execs told Cointelegraph.

Artificial intelligence agents will transform Web3 in 2025, with cryptocurrency staking and onchain trading emerging as early use cases, industry executives told Cointelegraph.

Agentic AIs — machines pursuing complex goals autonomously — are already reshaping the digital economy, building Web3 applications, launching tokens and interacting with humans autonomously.

In 2025, “AI agents are expected to take on a more prominent role within decentralized communities,”  J.D. Seraphine, a Web3 AI developer at Raiinmaker, told Cointelegraph.

ai16z’s Eliza Labs, Stanford clinch AI research partnership

The ai16z developer is researching the intersection of artificial intelligence and Web3.

Eliza Labs, the developer behind ai16z, has partnered with Stanford University’s Future of Digital Currency Initiative to research how artificial intelligence agents can improve Web3, according to a Dec. 16 announcement.

The collaboration will use Eliza Labs’ open-source AI agent framework, dubbed Eliza, to “tackle fundamental questions about how AI agents can establish trust, coordinate actions, and make decisions within decentralized financial systems,” Eliza Labs said.

Commencing in 2025, the researchers’ priorities will include “[d]eveloping new frameworks for how autonomous agents establish and verify trust within digital currency networks” and “[i]nvestigating how agents interact and coordinate in economic contexts.”
