AI vs. human leadership: Debate over plan to govern Cheyenne with AI

AI technology could drastically reduce inequalities and expand access to services in local and state governments, many believe.

Artificial intelligence could soon be governing a city in the United States — at least if one American mayoral candidate has his way.

Victor Miller recently threw his hat into the ring for mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming, pledging to manage the 65,000-person city exclusively with a generative AI bot he built himself — called VIC, or Virtual Integrated Citizen.

He argued that it could quickly scan heaps of municipal documents, summarize events and render error-free judgments in near real-time. Its rulings would also be objective — without fear of favor or influence from lobbyists — which would be good for democracy.

The singularity: How AI could become the final boss whale of crypto

World-renowned futurist Ray Kurtzweil says the singularity is coming sooner than expected.

Everyone from Elon Musk to the CEO of Google DeepMind has predicted that artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence within a matter of decades. This scenario is often referred to as the AI singularity.

Big tech, academia, and governments around the world have started workshopping potential scenarios to deal with this hypothetical moment. While much has been written about the threat of a violent AI takeover, there’s little in the way of research concerning how a machine could corner the global economy.

Futurist Ray Kurzweil, a former Google researcher who’s considered a luminary in the field of technology, recently published a book entitled “The Singularity Is Nearer: When We Merge with AI.” In his text, he discusses what he views as our imminent future as the second-smartest beings on Earth.

DNA computing breakthrough could turn living cells into functioning blockchains

Scientists built a DNA computer capable of playing chess.

In the not-so-far future it may be possible to run entire computer networks inside of living cells thanks to a recent breakthrough in molecular computing from scientists in the US.

According to research published on Aug 22., a team of scientists at North Carolina State University and Johns Hopkins University have built a functional DNA computer.

As Cointelegraph previously reported, DNA storage has been around for a while. But this may be the world’s first functional molecular computer capable of conducting both storage and compute functions via DNA — instead of using electricity, like regular desktop computers and smartphones.

Elon Musk’s Twitter buyout is going so poorly that banks had to issue pay cuts

The “hung” loans have led to bankers calling it the worst buyout since 2008.

There have been thousands of corporate buyouts in the 14 years since the 2008 banking crisis. And, according to the banks holding the loans, none of them have been worse than Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.

A report from the Wall Street Journal indicates that approximately $13 billion in loans used in the purchase of Twitter (now X) are stuck on banks’ balance sheets.

The typical practice for this type of debt financing is for banks to sell that debt to other investors. Since X is a private company, this practice allows investors who weren’t involved in the initial financing phase to become stakeholders.
