OpenSea faces backlash over ‘OS2’ private beta, airdrop dynamics

Community members who accessed the “OS2” private beta expressed frustration over the NFT marketplace’s airdrop dynamics.

Non-fungible token (NFT) platform OpenSea has announced that holders of its Gemesis NFTs now have access to the private beta version of its upgraded marketplace, OS2.

On Jan. 28, the NFT marketplace said it completed taking the snapshot of wallets with Gemesis NFTs. The company posted that there are almost 50,000 holders of the NFTs, saying that these users could now access OS2.

On Nov. 4, 2024, OpenSea founder and CEO Devin Finzer revealed plans to build a new version of the platform “from the ground up.” Finzer did not provide many details about the platform but said it might be released sometime in December.
