Binance co-founder clarifies asset listing policies, dispels FUD

According to Binance, 98% of applications sent to the exchange for new token listings never receive a reply from the company.

Following claims from the CEO of Moonrock Capital — a crypto-native advisory and investment firm — that Binance demanded 15% of an unnamed prospective project's total token supply to secure a listing on the centralized exchange, Binance co-founder Yi He responded by denying the claims and clarifying Binance's listing policies.

According to Binance's co-founder, the company does not charge new projects a percentage of their token supply for listing or a fixed amount. Since 2018, Binance's listing policy stipulates that all listing fees will be "transparent," and 100% of the fees are donated to charity. The policy states:

The Moonrock CEO's claims sparked a debate about the listing fee policies of centralized exchanges — prompting Sonic co-founder and developer Andre Cronje to join the debate and make similar accusations against Coinbase.

BNB DApp volumes down 25% in a week — Will BNB price follow?

BNB price staged a mild recovery, but could lackluster network activity and less-than-stellar Binance launchpad results put a cap on the gains?

BNB (BNB), the native token of BNB Chain, gained 4.1% from Oct. 10 to Oct. 11, signaling resilience after briefly testing the $555 support level. BNB price has remained relatively stable since July, even as the broader altcoin market saw a 15.6% decline. This performance has solidified BNB as the third-largest cryptocurrency, with a significant $15 billion market capitalization advantage over Solana (SOL).

Ochain activity for BNB Chain dropped by 37% over the past week, raising concerns among investors about the sustainability of the BNB recent outperformance. Traders are wary that Ethereum's layer-2 scaling solutions are gaining traction, especially following the launch of the Base network, which offers fast and exceptionally low-cost integration with Coinbase, the leading US exchange and Web3 wallet provider.

It could be argued that BNB's value is partly driven by the offerings of the Binance exchange, including exclusive launchpad access and trading fee discounts, which may reduce the need for BNB usage on the BNB Chain itself. However, beyond network transaction fees, BNB is widely utilized across the ecosystem's decentralized applications (DApps) for trading, staking, yield farming, real-world assets (RWA), lending, launchpads, gaming, and derivatives markets.

Scroll lists on Binance, sparking debate over centralization concerns

Scroll’s Binance listing has sparked community debate, with critics raising concerns about centralization, while Scroll’s co-founder has highlighted global growth strategies.

Scroll, an Ethereum layer-2 project, was recently listed on the centralized cryptocurrency exchange Binance, sparking debate in the crypto community about centralization.

The listing, announced on Oct. 11, was praised for its potential to boost growth but criticized for its perceived alignment with centralized entities. Concerns were raised about whether the project was compromising on its decentralization principles.

X user Zeng Jiajun framed Scroll’s decision to list on Binance as “kneeling” to a centralized exchange (CEX), calling it a “tough decision to make” but casting doubt on the long-term implications.

Dip in trading at Binance and other major crypto exchanges confounds experts

Experts are having trouble explaining why trading is slumping at the same time that Bitcoin prices rise. Are geopolitical tensions to blame.

Spot-market trading volume at Binance sagged 23% in September – to $344 billion – its lowest monthly mark since November 2023, CCData reported last week.

And Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, wasn't alone.

Other mainstream exchanges, including OKX, HTX, Coinbase, Kraken, and Bybit reported month-on-month declines of 25%, 24%, 30%, 25% and 20%, respectively, Jacob Joseph, senior research analyst at CCData, told Cointelegraph on Oct. 8.

Risc Zero aims to bring blockchain security to ‘any’ off-chain app

Next-gen zero-knowledge proofs are “orders of magnitude” cheaper than existing options, Risc said.

Risc Zero is preparing to launch a service designed to use zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to bring blockchain security to any off-chain application, according to a Sept. 16 announcement.

Called ‘Boundless’, the service seeks to resolve blockchain’s most vexing scalability challenges — including limits to transaction throughput and cross-chain interoperability— by “bypassing traditional onchain execution limits” with ZK proofs, Risc said.

Boundless is the latest in a proliferation of potential solutions to blockchain’s scalability constraints, which contribute to higher costs and slower execution times for transactions.

Chainalysis alerts rise in crypto hacks and ransom in 2024

Cryptocurrency hackers have been returning to their roots to targeting centralized exchanges amid a spike in the Bitcoin price in 2024.

A new report indicates that while overall illicit transactions in cryptocurrency markets declined in 2024, certain types of crypto-related criminal activity rose.

Aggregate illicit activity in crypto has dropped 19.6% year-to-date (YTD), falling from $20.9 billion to $16.7 billion by July 2024, according to the first part of the mid-year crypto crime update by Chainalysis released on Aug. 15.

Chainalysis found that legitimate crypto activity has been growing faster than illicit activity onchain in 2024, particularly due to positive industry events like the adoption of spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the US.
