Hashdex again amends S-1 for Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF

Another amended filing signals continued progress toward bringing a diversified cryptocurrency index fund to US exchanges.

Asset manager Hashdex has submitted its second amended application for a proposed exchange-traded fund (ETF) designed as a one-stop-shop cryptocurrency portfolio, according to a Nov. 25 regulatory filing.

The revised filing signals continued progress for the crypto index ETF with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the United States’ top financial regulator.

Hashdex filed its first amended S-1 in October after the SEC asked for more time to reach a decision on whether to authorize the ETF for trading.

CFTC report endorses tokenizing trading collateral 

Distributed ledger technology can help solve longstanding challenges in US financial markets, the report says.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has endorsed using blockchain technology to manage trading collateral in United States derivatives markets, according to a Nov. 21 report by the CFTC’s Global Markets Advisory Committee.

Blockchain technologies — including distributed ledgers and tokenization — can address longstanding challenges for traditional derivatives exchanges and expand the variety of assets available to collateral trades, the report said.

“All over the world, there have been successful and proven commercial use cases for tokenization of assets,” CFTC Commissioner Caroline D. Pham said in a statement, adding:

Potential SEC chair pledges crypto-forward approach after Gensler resignation

Donald Trump has not yet named his pick for SEC chair to send to the Senate, but Commissioner Mark Uyeda offered a preview of the regulator’s approach to crypto in 2025.

Mark Uyeda, a Republican commissioner at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, has suggested that he would prioritize regulatory clarity for cryptocurrencies if picked and confirmed as the next head of the agency.

Speaking to Fox Business on Nov. 22, Uyeda echoed many of President-elect Donald Trump’s talking points on digital assets, saying that the SEC under Chair Gary Gensler had waged a “war on crypto.” Gensler announced on Nov. 21 that he intended to step down as SEC chair on Jan. 20 — the same day as Trump’s scheduled inauguration.

“First off, from a regulatory perspective, we can provide the appropriate clarity,” said Uyeda. “Some crypto is not even a security at all, but we need to make clear whether you fall within SEC jurisdiction or not.”
