Bitcoin price looks on track to reclaim the $100,000 level. Are altcoins set to follow?
Bitcoin (BTC) bulls are maintaining the pressure and are likely to test the stiff overhead resistance at $100,000 soon. Although the recovery has been strong, the relief rally on Jan. 2 was greeted by profit booking by the United States spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund investors. The ETFs witnessed $242.3 million in outflows, per Farside Investors data.
Bitcoin’s hesitation to cross above $100,000 has not altered its long-term view. Steno Research said in a research note that 2025 is likely to be the best year for cryptocurrency markets ever. They expect Bitcoin to hit more than $150,000 and Ether (ETH) to cross $8,000.

The circulating supply of Circle’s United States dollar-backed stablecoin USDC (USDC) has risen 80% from cyclical lows as onchain activity picks up, according to data from Blockworks Research.
As of Jan. 2, USDC’s circulating supply is approaching $44 billion, nearly double the 2023 low of less than $24 billion, according to CoinGecko.
Meanwhile, holdings are more evenly distributed among blockchain networks as users migrate beyond Ethereum, Blockworks’ data analytics manager, Dan Smith, said in a Jan. 2 post on the X platform.

Many in the crypto industry have criticized US authorities for sanctioning Tornado Cash smart contract addresses and charging developers with money laundering.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has made a significant contribution toward a legal defense fund for Tornado Cash developers Roman Storm and Alexey Pertsev.
According to a Dec. 31 X post from the Juicebox project Free Pertsev and Storm, Buterin donated 50 Ether (ETH) — roughly $170,000 at the time of publication — to Storm’s and Pertsev’s legal aid.
Storm reported that the contribution was roughly 25% of the total $650,000 available to the Tornado Cash developer through JusticeDAO ahead of his trial.

Solana onboarded an additional $1 billion in stablecoin total value in December, primarily in USD Coin (USDC), according to data from DefiLlama.
The inflows highlight accelerating stablecoin adoption and the Solana network’s rise to prominence in 2024, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi).
Solana now hosts approximately $5 billion in stablecoin total value locked (TVL), with nearly $4 billion of that comprising USDC, according to the data.
