Serotonin CEO Amanda Cassatt highlighted that marketing is “a mechanism for perpetrating the fakery and the scams.”

Despite the growing adoption of cryptocurrency, investors shouldn’t get too comfortable trusting marketing and should always do their own research, according to Amanda Cassatt, the founder of Web3 marketing firm Serotonin.

“Marketing is a mechanism for perpetrating the fakery and the scams, and I think people should be very skeptical and do their own research,” Cassatt told Cointelegraph at Token2049 in Singapore.

Cassatt explained that seasoned crypto investors and newcomers should adopt a stance of “skepticism” around crypto marketing and “always do their own research to understand any technology or product they’re using.”

Celebrity crypto tokens will ‘absolutely’ catch SEC’s eye — Lawyers

Celebrities who have brazenly shilled their memecoins on X in recent months run a high risk of attracting the attention of the SEC and class-action lawsuits.

Celebrities who have recently created and promoted memecoins on Solana could be breaking securities laws and “will absolutely catch the attention” of the United States securities regulator, according to lawyers.

US-based public figures, including Caitlyn Jenner, Iggy Azalea (real name Amethyst Kelly), Jason Derulo (real name Jason Desrouleaux) and many others, have launched and promoted crypto tokens using their likeness since late May.

“Nothing gets the SEC to act faster than shilling a memecoin,” Creo Legal founding director David Chung told Cointelegraph.

“You are either building capitalism or planned socialism,” said Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy, pointing the finger at Vitalik Buterin, Hayden Adams and the wider Ethereum community.

Ethereum leaders must choose between supporting a capitalist or socialist economic system, but they can’t do both, according to digital assets market maker Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gaevoy.

“You are either building capitalism or planned socialism. I’m sorry, you really can’t have both,” Gaevoy declared in a June 6 post on X, following both Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum-based decentralized exchange (DEX) Uniswap founder Hayden Adams’ recent comments regarding the surge of celebrity memecoins.

“If ETH fails in the future it won’t be because “Solana is faster,” it will be because the ETH “elite” is still stuck in a massive contradiction,” he claimed.

Iggy Azalea’s anti-scam plan and crypto losses from hacks decline by 12%: Finance Redefined

In a bold move to combat crypto scams, Iggy Azalea pledges to burn her own coins.

The past week in decentralized finance (DeFi) land saw another memecoin frenzy, with celebrities launching their own memecoins — quite a trend shift from 2021–2022 when they launched their own nonfungible tokens (NFTs). Among all the meme hysteria, pop star Iggy Azalea devised a “burning” plan to evade frauds and rug pulls.

In other news, a trader who lost 1,807 liquid-staked Ether (ETH) worth $6.91 million appears to have received a large share of the stolen funds back from scammers. A new report from Immunefi revealed that crypto losses linked to hacks and frauds declined by 12% year-over-year in May.

The top 100 DeFi tokens had a mixed week as price momentum remained sideways where most tokens traded in green and the total value locked in DeFi contracts remained above $100 billion.
