Opera Crypto Browser is now available on iPhones and iPads

Even though mobile Android users have been able to access the browser for the past few months, over a billion Apple users can now download it via the App Store.

Opera released a beta version of its Web3 browser with a built-in crypto wallet on Friday for iOS devices, iPhone and iPad. Opera's Crypto Browser has been available for Mac and Windows desktop users, as well as Android mobile users since January. The mobile release is the latest step in its Crypto Browser Project, a Web3-focused initiative for facilitating navigation across decentralized applications (DApp), games and metaverse platforms.

According to the company, the main features includes the Opera Wallet with support for the Ethereum, Polygon, and Celo ecosystems to buy, sell and transfer tokens. Users can also restore any Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible Wallet with the native Opera Wallet and integrate their existing assets and balances.

On the browser's homepage users can see the latest top NFT sales and a news aggregator called "Crypto Corner," with live updates about crypto asset prices and gas fees, as well as airdrops and even suggested educational resources.

The company also said the browser comes with cryptocurrency mining protection that blocks “cryptojacking” scripts that may compromise the performance of an iPhone or iPad device. Other security features include a native ad and tracker blocker, pop-up blocker and an intuitive Cookie Dialogue Blocker.

According to Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera, the Crypto Browser targets the growing interest in Web3, whether its from veteran crypto users or newcomers.

“The Opera Crypto Browser Project was built to simplify the Web3 user experience that has often been bewildering for mainstream users. Opera believes Web3 has to be easy to use in order to reach its full potential and a mass adoption.”

Additionally, the browser company added support for eight major blockchain ecosystems — Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos Network and IXO. Opera said that it plans to integrate more Proof-of-Stake chains in the future.

Opera integrates Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon and five other blockchains

Under the Crypto Browser project initiative, Opera's multi-chain compatibility aims to ease the introduction of Web3 to more than 380 million mobile and desktop users worldwide.

Opera, one of the major crypto-friendly internet browsers, announced the integration of eight blockchains in a continued effort to introduce Web3 to more than 380 million mobile and desktop users worldwide.

In Jan. 2022, Opera launched the Crypto Browser project, a Web3-focused initiative for facilitating navigation across decentralized applications (DApp), games and metaverse platforms. As part of this initiative, the browser company added support for eight major blockchain ecosystems, including Bitcoin (BTC), Solana (SOL), Polygon (MATIC), StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos DAO and IXO.

Opera said in the announcement that its users now have access to the Polygon and Solana DApp ecosystems, as well as "the benefits of Layer 2 DeFi via StarkWare-powered DiversiFi."

The latest integrations enable Opera users to access Polygon proof-of-stake (POS) blockchain and Ethereum L2 ecosystem via StarkEx.

According to the company, the intention behind integrating multiple blockchains was to ensure chain agnosticism and Web3 involvement in an environment-friendly manner. Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera stated:

“Ultimately, Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit.”

The announcement further highlighted the need for carbon-neutral solutions with low gas fees, which stands as one of the main reasons for choosing Polygon over the Ethereum blockchain.

Back in Nov. 2021, Opera competitor Brave browser integrated Solana blockchain to strengthen its DApps capability.

Citing the partnership, Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave said that:

“With more and more users and creators requiring tools for fast and affordable access to the decentralized Web, this integration will seamlessly pave the way for the next billion crypto users to harness applications and tokens.”

Brave is yet to announce the addition of multi-chain support to rival its growing competition.

Opera browser to enable emoji-based web addresses

Opera users can now register and access emoji URLs and personal domains via emoji-centric integration with Yat.

Opera announced a partnership with Yat, a platform that allows the creation of emoji-based web addresses (URL), for integrating the emoji system in Opera’s browsers across all operating systems. Celebrating the announcement, the duo launched an event to distribute seven nonfungible tokens (NFTs) from legendary NFT artist Fvckrender valued at a floor price of 2.89 Ether (ETH).

Tech startup Yat's NFT project allows internet users to own personalized strings of emojis and use them as universal digital identifiers and wallet addresses. Recently, Opera released the beta version of its new Crypto Browser Project

The integration allows Opera users to surf the web by entering a string of emojis into the URL bar instead of letters and words. The "emojification" of Opera, as the company calls it, is a "new, easier and more fun" way to find and be directed to Yat pages, according to Jorgen Arnesen, executive vice president of mobile at Opera.

"The partnership marks a major paradigm shift in the way the internet works. Through the integration with Yat, Opera users are able to ditch .com or even words in their links and use emojis to be directed to websites."

Emojis embedded on web pages will link to the corresponding "y.at/" page automatically. Famous artists and celebrities were among the first to invest in and use their Yat emoji web addresses, simply called Yats. For example, rapper Lil Wayne's (y.at/alien-musical note) Yat page directs users to his record label's site and DJ Steve Aoki's (y.at/birthday cake-musical note) page takes users to his website.

To mark the integration's launch, Yat and Opera are hosting a scavenger hunt for participants to compete for seven commissioned Fvck Crystals NFTs from NFT artist Fvckrender.

At the time of publication, Yat had a trading volume of 411 ETH ($1,263,422) on OpenSea.

Opera announces beta of its new Web3-focused ‘Crypto Browser’

The beta browser offers a built-in non-custodial wallet, available now to Windows, Mac and Android users.

Opera, the Norway-based company behind the popular internet browser, has released the beta version of its new Crypto Browser Project. This crypto browser aims to facilitate the user experience of browsing decentralized applications (DApp), games and metaverse platforms by offering direct access to Web3 services for Windows, Mac and Android users.

The current Opera browser boasts a no-login VPN and native ad and tracker blocker that help to make it secure. According to a release shared with Cointelegraph, the new crypto browser will maintain these security features while integrating direct access to decentralized exchanges, (NFT) and gaming DApps, as well as Telegram and Twitter support.

Jorgen Arnesen, EVP mobile at Opera, stated that the main goal of the project is to help crypto and Web3 become more mainstream:

“Opera’s Crypto Browser Project promises a simpler, faster, more private Web3 experience for users. It simplifies Web3 user experience that is often bewildering for mainstream users. Opera believes Web3 has to be easy to use for the decentralized web to reach its full potential.”

A built-in non-custodial wallet will support Ethereum in beta and, thanks to recent partnerships, will soon extend to Polygon, Solana, Nervos Network, Celo and naming systems, such as Unstoppable Domains, Handshake and Ethereum Name Service. Opera’s integration with Polygon is expected to go live in the first quarter of 2022.

The wallet supports both fungible ERC-20 standards as well as nonfungible ERC-721 standards, with ERC-1155 coming in Q1 2022. Users will also be able to purchase crypto via a built-in fiat-to-crypto on-ramp, complete crypto-to-crypto swaps and even access a built-in NFT gallery.

Opera to integrate with Polygon, opening dApp ecosystem to 80M users

Browser-crypto integrations have become a major theme as blockchain developers look prioritize ease of use in onboarding new participants.

On Wednesday, Opera, an internet browser with Web 3.0 application support and a built-in crypto wallet, announced an upcoming integration with Polygon (MATIC). The integration, which is scheduled to go live in the first quarter of 2022, will first open Polygon's ecosystem to Opera's over 80 million users on the Android mobile, then to the rest on other devices and platforms. Polygon is a layer two Ethereum (ETH) scaling solution designed for lower gas fees and faster transaction times.

Through the integration, Opera users will be able to access Polygon decentralized applications, or dApps, such as Sushiswap, Curve, and Aave, as well as blockchain games and nonfungible tokens platforms such as Decentraland, Opensea, and Sandbox.

Jorgen Arnese, executive vice president of Opera Mobile, said the new integration will help "remove the biggest challenge that crypto enthusiasts" face — namely, high gas fees and slow transaction speeds.

Arjun Kalsy, vice president of growth at Polygon, added: "With this integration, Opera's hundreds of millions monthly active users will be able to experience Polygon's thriving dApp ecosystem and best in class Web 3.0 technology."

Ethereum scaling solutions such as Polygon have become vital in recent years as the network can only handle about 15 transactions per second. In times of peak network activity, like when celebrities try to drop over 10,000 NFTs all at once, gas prices can soar to absurd amounts. Fees are even higher in decentralized finance protocols such as peer-to-peer borrowing and lending, where multiple smart contract confirmations are required for loan origination.

Opera announces support for Celo stablecoins in its crypto wallet app

Opera has added Celo-based stablecoins to the list of supported assets in its wallet app.

According to a release issued on Friday, the inclusion of stablecoins is part of a broader integration with the Celo (CELO) network. Opera says the move will enable greater payment flexibility for millions of its users around the world.

Celo’s stablecoins are tied to their respective fiat currency pegs with both cUSD and cEUR reportedly backed by a basket of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), held in the Celo Reserve.

Commenting on the news, Cuautemoc Weber, head of crypto and vice president of business development and mobile at Opera, remarked that Celo’s “mobile-first approach” aligned with his company’s goals of bringing crypto payment to millions of smartphone users.

Indeed, Celo is touted as being a prominent player in the mobile-based decentralized finance (DeFi) arena with a suite of stablecoins and sundry payment applications.

Detailing the rationale behind selecting Celo stablecoins as the first digital stable currencies on the Opera crypto wallet, Weber explained:

“We chose to integrate cUSD and cEUR as our first stablecoins, as a large part of our user base lives in markets like Africa, the Philippines, and LATAM, where access to financial services—such as cash out options—is limited, fiat volatility can be challenging, and remittance costs are high. Celo makes this possible with just a mobile phone number.”

Opera became the first major web browser to create a native crypto wallet, releasing the product on the Android mobile operating system back in December 2018 before expanding to iOS in March 2019.

The company has continued to expand the number of supported cryptocurrencies on its wallet app.

Apart from the stablecoin inclusion, Opera will also join Deutsche Telekom and over 140 other organizations as part of the Celo Alliance for Prosperity initiative that seeks to foster greater financial inclusion via blockchain technology adoption.

Web browser service Opera has announced the addition of Celo Dollar (cUSD) and Celo Euro (cEUR) stablecoins to its crypto wallet app.

Web browser Opera integrates .crypto domain names for users on any device

Opera is fully integrating .crypto domain names provided by Unstoppable Domains for browsing on any platform, be it iOS, Android or a Linux, Mac or Windows desktop.

Crypto-friendly web browser Opera is expanding its integration of decentralized web pages provided by blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains — a blockchain firm backed by the high-profile Bitcoin (BTC) advocate Tim Draper.

On Wednesday, Opera said that users of the browser on any platform — iOS, Android, Windows, Mac or Linux — will now benefit from full, native integration of Unstoppable Domains’ .crypto domain names.

The move extends access to decentralized web pages to all of Opera’s estimated 320+ million monthly active users and marks Opera out among mainstream web browsers in supporting a domain name system that is not part of the dominant Domain Name Service.

The .crypto domain names are minted as nonfungible tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, providing their creators with full control and ownership rights over their pages. The .crypto names typically sell as NFTs for as little as $40, although more coveted addresses such as win.crypto, gambling.crypto and hotels.crypto were sold for $100,000 each in March of this year.

Due to the native integration, access to .crypto sites is just as easy as a traditional .com address. For users of the decentralized web on Opera, an additional convenience is that .crypto domain names can be used instead of the unwieldy alphanumeric blockchain addresses used for payments across cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges.

Moreover, due to Opera’s support of IPFS, users can retrieve .crypto sites from a decentralized network of computers rather than a cloud provider or server. IPFS is an acronym for InterPlanetary File System, a peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system.

While decentralized web infrastructure goes some way toward circumventing censorship for publishers and posters of web domain names, Opera has previously emphasized that on the user side, VPNs may still be necessary to get around externally imposed restrictions, even for.crypto sites.
