Uber stock jumps, Tesla stumbles after Elon Musk’s Cybercab reveal

Tesla’s failure to demonstrate progress in the field of autonomous vehicles appears to be making investors skittish.

Tesla’s big technology showcase appears to have missed the mark after an underwhelming series of announcements and reveals at the company’s Oct. 10 “We, Robot” event in Hollywood, California.

The company’s stocks have taken a nearly 8% hit in the wake of the event, while rival Uber’s are up by almost 9% at the time of writing.

Meta shows off Web3-to-reality bridge with ‘Hyperscape’ metaverse demo

The tech is still experimental, but its implications could change how users view reality.

Meta recently showed off a new “Hyperscape” tech that takes the idea of stitching photographs together to form a 3D environment — such as YouTube’s 360 videos — and turns it into a real-time rendering system that could potentially revolutionize telepresence and redefine the idea of working from home.

Meta’s still as bullish as ever when it comes to the metaverse. As Cointelegraph recently reported, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed off the company’s new “Orion” smart glasses at the company’s “Connect” event on Sept. 25.

The Orion glasses purportedly give the user an effective heads-up display, allowing them to navigate the physical world with digital information seamlessly integrated into what they are seeing.

Big tech is prepping an explosive pivot to robotics

The ten most valuable tech firms in the world are all involved in developing technology for the robotics industry.

The next big thing in the technology industry appears to be consumer robotics and there could be massive implications for both Main Street and Wall Street.

An analysis of the top ten tech firms in the world by market capitalization, their 2024 performance to-date, and what we’ve been able to glean about their current budgets indicates that big tech is ready to move beyond chatbots.

There are currently countless robots in the world. They’re used to build cars, stitch clothing, and even handle nuclear materials. But these specialized machines are purpose-built to perform specific tasks and typically not available or even useful to the average person.

Welcome to the future where on-chain robots serve coffee and crypto rewards

Blockchain-driven robots served coffee with a side of crypto incentives at Token2049 in Dubai in a bid to revolutionize our relationship with automation.

The future is here and it has arrived in the form of a fully-automated robot serving coffee and sprinkled-topped ice cream all powered by blockchain technology.

Deployed at Token2049 in Dubai, Peaq, a layer-1 blockchain for DePIN and Machine RWAs (real-world assets), alongside XMAQUINA and ELOOP, launched a live demonstration of tokenizing autonomous value-generating robots.

The robo-cafe demo included serving attendees coffee and soft serve while allowing users to earn crypto rewards for each cup sold via XMAQUINA’s machine pool.

Tesla’s humanoid robot is now 30% faster, 22 pounds lighter

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed a new prototype of its humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2. It can dance and do squats.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and executive chair of X (formerly Twitter), has revealed a new prototype of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, which is lighter and faster than previous versions. Musk shared a video presentation of Optimus Gen 2 via his X account on Dec. 13.

Musk has repeatedly called for more regulatory oversight of artificial intelligence (AI), believing it may be “smarter than all humans at everything” in the future.

In December, the entrepreneur claimed that a “digital god” would make the copyright lawsuits regarding AI irrelevant. Musk previously predicted that artificial general intelligence would arrive before 2030, an estimate many industry experts disputed as overly optimistic.

How AI is changing crypto: Hype vs. reality

In the latest Cointelegraph Report, we assessed the value AI is bringing to the crypto industry, by separating the hype from real use cases.

In the latest Cointelegraph Report, we sought to find out the real value AI brings to the crypto industry beyond the hype surrounding the technology. To do so, we looked into three main areas where AI is impacting crypto: trading, data analytics, and user experience.

For many years, trading bots have allowed users to execute trades in an automated way based on certain pre-set parameters.

With the recent development of Large Language Models such as ChatGPT, AI-powered bots are capable of processing large amounts of historical data, which can be helpful in predicting future price movements.

However, despite the latest advancements, AI-powered bots are still not sophisticated enough to elaborate complex trading strategies.

“It's basically like having a bunch of dumb partners who can, who can adhere to very basic commands, but they can't do any like very complicated thinking themselves,” said Eric Crown, a professional crypto trader and YouTuber, sharing his personal experience with AI-powered bots.

Regarding data analytics, AI tools can process large amounts of public data scattered on the blockchain, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of the crypto ecosystem and assessing potential market risks.

However, a large amount of market data is kept off-chain by centralized exchanges and therefore is not publicly available. That limits the capability of AI to make accurate assessments.

The UN holds a robot press conference about the state of AI

The AI for Good global summit hosted by the UN tech agency invited a panel of robots and their creators to a press conference to answer questions from reporters.

At the AI for Good 2023 global summit, a panel of robots and their creators sat in front of the press to answer journalists’ questions on topics such as job automation, artificial intelligence (AI) leadership and collaboration with humans for a better future.

The summit was hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the tech agency of the United Nations, in Geneva from July 4-7 and included a variety of speakers along with the world’s most advanced androids. The UN called this its first robot press conference.

Altogether nine robots were in attendance including Sophia, who serves as the U.N. Development Program’s (UNDP) first robot innovation ambassador, a robot healthcare service provider named Grace and a rock star robot called Desdemona.

The robots were able to make solid statements, some of which were pre-programmed responses. Sophia, for example, occasionally relies on scripted responses from a team of writers at Hanson Robotics, according to the company’s website.

At the conference, organizers did not clarify how much of the answers were scripted, though reporters were asked to speak “slowly and clearly” so the robots could process the questions.

When asked if AI-powered robots could govern better than humans, Sophia responded that:

“I believe the humanoid robots have the potential to lead with a greater level of efficiency and effectiveness than human leaders.”

She also said they don’t work with the same biases or emotions that could “cloud decision making,” along with processing large amounts of data. When challenged about learned biases and collaboration with humans she said “together we can achieve great things.”

When asked if humans could trust superintelligent AI systems, the robot Amica from Engineered Arts said “trust is earned not given” and as AI develops and becomes more powerful, she believes:

“It's important to build trust through transparency in communication between humans and machines.”

Her creator asked how we can know she would never lie to humans she answered, “no one can ever know that for sure but I can promise to always be honest and truthful with you.”

With the rise of AI, rumors and estimates of it replacing human labor in the workforce have become more prevalent. In Italy the government has even established a fund for workers at risk of AI replacement.

When a reporter asked Grace, the robot serving as a healthcare worker, if she would replace humans her answer was clear:

“I will be working alongside humans to provide assistance and support and will not be replacing any existing jobs.”

Her creator Dr. Ben Goertzel chuckled, along with the entire crowd, and asked the robot if she was “sure about that,” to which she reiterated that she was.

The event organizers said the conference was held in order to showcase the capabilities and limitations of AI and robotics, along with the ways in which both could further the UN’s goals and “human-machine collaboration.”
