The future of trust is onchain

Onchain reputation could reshape trust in digital interactions.

Opinion by: Lior Goldenberg, founder of Covariance

Trust is the bedrock of human interaction, a fundamental element that shapes our relationships, business dealings and societal structures. In our rapidly evolving digital world, however, we face a pressing challenge: How do we scale trust beyond our immediate circles?

Consider the simple act of meeting someone new at a conference. These encounters are more than just casual conversations — they’re the seeds of trust being planted between two people. Conferences, meetups and introductions in chat groups serve as coordination mechanisms, bringing previously unconnected people or companies together and facilitating the growth of these trust seeds.

Rollups alone won’t unlock blockchain’s true potential

Ethereum’s scalability solution may create more problems than it solves. Here’s why we need to look beyond rollups.

Opinion by: Adrian Brink, co-founder of Anoma

Rollups have become the go-to solution to Ethereum’s scalability issues. As the ecosystem expands, however, the challenges created by rollups — including continued state and liquidity fragmentation and their inability to create a unified user experience — are becoming critical barriers to Ethereum’s evolution.

Rollups alone do not unlock any fundamentally new functionality or capabilities for developers. We need new approaches to blockchain architectures to unlock Ethereum’s true potential rather than continuing to innovate at the margins.

Risc Zero aims to bring blockchain security to ‘any’ off-chain app

Next-gen zero-knowledge proofs are “orders of magnitude” cheaper than existing options, Risc said.

Risc Zero is preparing to launch a service designed to use zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to bring blockchain security to any off-chain application, according to a Sept. 16 announcement.

Called ‘Boundless’, the service seeks to resolve blockchain’s most vexing scalability challenges — including limits to transaction throughput and cross-chain interoperability— by “bypassing traditional onchain execution limits” with ZK proofs, Risc said.

Boundless is the latest in a proliferation of potential solutions to blockchain’s scalability constraints, which contribute to higher costs and slower execution times for transactions.

Monad’s $225M funding: Optimistic parallelization and MonadBFT insights

Monad Labs raised $225 million, led by Paradigm, pushing forward the discussion on parallelized EVM chains.

Monad is a new layer-1 smart contract platform that recently raised $225 million in funding from venture capital firm Paradigm.

Although Monad has not launched yet, it is expected to be live on its public testnet in late 2024, with mainnet deployment planned for early 2025.

Monad is a parallel Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) project, and like similar projects such as Aurora (built on the Near Protocol) or Sei, it attempts to parallelize the execution of EVM instructions so the network can process multiple transactions concurrently. This makes it possible to handle a larger volume of transactions, increases throughput and reduces costs.

Exploring Sui’s Object-Centric Model and the Move Programming Language

A closer look at how Sui’s object-centric model and the Move language can improve blockchain scalability and smart contract development.

The Sui blockchain has emerged as a novel layer-1 (L1) protocol, incorporating advanced technologies to address common layer-1 trade-offs. Cointelegraph Research unpacks the details of this newcomer to the blockchain space.

Sui uses the Move programming language, which was designed with a focus on asset representation and access control. This article examines Sui’s object-centric data storage model, its implications for transaction processing, and its potential advantages over traditional account-based paradigms.

Sui draws significant inspiration from the Diem blockchain, particularly in its use of the Move programming language for smart contracts. Move was designed with a type system specifically tailored to asset management and access control enforcement. Sui Move builds on this foundation with an object-centric data storage model that uses objects rather than accounts as primitives.
