Texas Blockchain Council endorses Ted Cruz for US Senate

The junior senator from Texas has spoken at several crypto conferences about Bitcoin mining and its potential benefits for the Lone Star State’s energy grid.

The cryptocurrency and blockchain advocacy organization Texas Blockchain Council (TBC) announced it endorsed incumbent Ted Cruz for reelection in the United States Senate.

In an Aug. 12 X post, president Lee Bratcher said the TBC would endorse the junior senator as Cruz addressed a crowd at a Core Scientific mining facility in Denton, Texas. Bratcher hinted the Texas senator was knowledgeable about “Bitcoin as a tool for ensuring freedom and mining as a tool for grid stability.” In an X post at the event, Cruz said, “Crypto is the future.”

US senate hopefuls look for crypto bump at Bitcoin 2024

The panel was a referendum on Elizabeth Warren and what happens if we don’t elect the right senators

A trio of US senate hopefuls took to the stage at Bitcoin 2024 on Saturday, July 27, with the aim of touting their crypto-friendly policies in front of potential voters in Nashville.

The discussion was hosted by former US Representative David McIntosh, co-founder of conservative political groups the Federalist Society and Club for Growth.

Among the hopefuls were Bernie Moreno, the GOP nominee US senate in the Ohio race where incumbent Sherrod Brown has been installed since 2007, Sam Brown, running for US senate in Nevada against incumbent Jacky Rosen, and Detroit-born John Deaton who’s taking on Elizabeth Warren in the Massachusetts’ race.

The tech entrepreneur characterized incumbent Elizabeth Warren's regulatory power over the Biden administration as a "Faustian bargain."

Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini and Winklevoss Capital, announced a $500,000 donation to attorney John Deaton's Senate campaign on July 18.

The investor and entrepreneur laid out his case in a lengthy social media thread that was highly critical of incumbent Elizabeth Warren, characterizing the Massachusetts Senator as the "chief architect" behind the Biden administration's war on the crypto industry.

Winklevoss claimed that President Joe Biden granted Elizabeth Warren, who is a senior member of the Democrat Party, veto power over his regulatory nominees in exchange for endorsing his 2020 presidential campaign.

CFTC chair reiterates BTC and ETH are commodities in testimony

The head of the US commodities regulator, Rostin Behnam, has again argued that the agency should be given regulatory oversight of Bitcoin and Ethereum to better protect investors.

The United States commodities regulator chief has again argued that Bitcoin and Ether — the two largest cryptocurrencies by market cap — are commodities, and his agency should be given oversight of them. 

Speaking on July 9 before the US Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Rostin Behnam argued that a recent court ruling in Illinois stated that Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) are commodities.

The July 3 ruling was part of a $120 million Ponzi case involving an Oregon man accused of fraud. In the order, the Illinois district court judge said both assets qualified as commodities.

Cynthia Lummis backs Ian Cain over crypto lawyer John Deaton for Senate

Pro-crypto Senator Cynthia Lummis cited Republican Ian Cain’s understanding of blockchain technology and the digital economy in his campaign to unseat Democrat Elizabeth Warren.

Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, one of the more outspoken cryptocurrency advocates in the United States Congress, has endorsed Republican Ian Cain for a Massachusetts Senate seat.

In a July 8 announcement, Cain’s campaign said Senator Lummis was backing the Republican candidate, citing his understanding of the “digital economy” and his embrace of innovation. The endorsement could give Cain an edge in a primary between his opponents, including engineer Robert Antonellis and crypto-focused lawyer John Deaton.

“From the border to blockchain, Ian Cain understands the issues facing his community and he will fight hard everyday for the Commonwealth,” said Senator Lummis.
