Blockchain experiment results in swarm of decentralized learning robots

The research focused on securing the machines against physical and cyber-attack while maintaining their decentralized learning capabilities.

A team of scientists in Belgium may have solved one of the biggest challenges in the field of AI using a blockchain-based, decentralized training method. While the research is still in its earliest stages, its potential implications could range from revolutionizing outer space exploration to posing an existential threat to humanity.

In a simulated environment, the researchers developed a way to coordinate learning between individual, autonomous AI agents. The team used blockchain technology to facilitate and secure the agents’ communications, thus creating a decentralized “swarm” of learning models.

The individual training results for each agent in the swarm were then used to develop a larger AI model. Because the data was handled via blockchain, this bigger system benefited from the swarm’s collective intelligence without accessing any of the individual agents’ data.

Windows previews ‘Intelligent Media Search’ that transcribes videos and audio

The feature could be very useful, but privacy analysts have raised concerns over its reach.

Microsoft is trialing a new Windows feature called “Intelligent Media Search” that transcribes media files into text that can be processed by AI.

The feature would turn any spoken words in audio or video files on a Windows computer into text. This text output would be saved to a data file which could then be accessed by an AI model.

Users who allow the feature would be able to conduct text searches for any words appearing in their videos. A content creator, for example, with an expansive library of videos stored on their device could use the “Intelligent Media Search” feature to find a video featuring a specific line or to organize all files featuring a specific set of words or phrases.

Area 51 for AI? US gov secures early access to cutting edge models

It’s unclear whether the government would be required to inform the general public in the event an AI model becomes sentient.

Artificial intelligence firms OpenAI and Anthropic recently agreed to give the US AI Safety Institute early access to any “major” new AI models developed by their respective firms.

While the deal was purportedly signed over mutual safety concerns, it’s unclear exactly what the government’s role would be in the event of a technology breakthrough with significant safety implications.

OpenAI CEO and cofounder Sam Altman regarded the deal as a necessary step in a recent post on the X social media platform.

Anthropic CEO says future of AI is a hive-mind with a corporate structure

Even artificial workers can’t escape the bureaucracy.

The future of artificial intelligence may involve more of a corporate takeover than a robot uprising. This, according to AI firm Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei.

Amodei recently discussed the future of AI in an interview with Noah Smith and Erik Torenbergon the Econ 102 podcast. The trio touched on everything from the military use of AI to human workers being replaced by more efficient machines.

Perhaps most interestingly, however, Amodei discussed the company’s inside efforts to develop an efficient hierarchical structure for completing tasks via a network of artificial intelligence models.

Physics for fintech: How quantum AI can make humans better crypto traders

Scientists are using quantum algorithms to uncover new insights into how our brains learn and apply information.

Quantum computers are often referred to as a future technology that will give scientists and engineers a new tool with which to explore the deeper mysteries of the universe. But, based on a new study, they may end up making the whole species a little smarter.

A team of scientists in South Korea recently used a quantum computer to conduct research on how humans retain and retrieve information. This pioneering study could pave the way for new learning techniques to improve outcomes in fields such as science, mathematics, and finance.

There are numerous forms of quantum computing, though the industry remains in its infancy. Companies such as Google and IBM are heavily involved in developing what’s called “gate-based” quantum computers. These systems work in a somewhat similar fashion to modern digital circuits.

Nvidia Q2 revenue beats expectations in record-setting boost to AI sector

The company expects next quarter to be even better with improvement projected across nearly every vertical.

Nvidia’s earnings call did not disappoint as CFO Colette Kress announced Q2 earnings of $30 billion, beating its previous estimate by two billion dollars. This bullish signal could buoy the burgeoning artificial intelligence sector as markets reopen on Thursday Aug. 29.

Nvidia held its Q2 earnings call on Wednesday Aug. 28 in what investors and analysts have been treating as a sort of “Groundhog’s Day” for the artificial intelligence industry.

CFO Colette Kress’ announcement that the company posted a second quarter revenue of $30 billion should be enough to allay any worries over an artificial intelligence winter. These figures beat estimates by about seven percent. This continued the firm’s streak of record-breaking quarters and prompted a litany of positive responses across social media.
