Tons of options: 5 crypto wallets that support TON blockchain

As the TON network continues to develop, holders are demanding wallets with complex functionalities that support the chain’s assets.

Toncoin (TON), the eponymous cryptocurrency associated with The Open Network, also known as TON, exploded in popularity this year.

Toncoin has become one of the 10 largest cryptocurrencies, with a market capitalization of $13.4 billion.

There are currently 2.5 billion coins in circulation worldwide, and the cryptocurrency’s total supply is 5.1 billion. Over the last nine months, the value of Toncoin has increased by around 150%.

There are a number of wallets that support TON, each with its own peculiarities. Some are custodial and focused on convenience and ease of use, while others provide users complete control over the cryptocurrency. 

There are simple wallets with a minimum set of functions, more complicated ones with options such as staking, and secure solutions for long-term storage.

Bitget and Foresight Ventures invest $30M in TON blockchain

With the new investment, Bitget and Foresight expect to increase their involvement in the TON’s governance and future development plans.

Telegram-linked blockchain platform, The Open Network (TON), has received another financial boost from Bitget and Foresight Ventures.

Bitget officially announced on Sept. 18 a $30 million strategic investment in the TON blockchain in a move to scale the development of TON applications on Telegram.

The company emphasized that the investment specifically targets major play-to-earn (P2E) games on Telegram, such as Hamster Kombat and Notcoin.

USDT on TON chain surpasses $1 billion: Token Terminal

Tether’s stablecoin continues to dominate rivals, including Circe’s U.S. Dollar Coin (USDC).

Tether’s stablecoin, USDT, has surpassed $1 billion in circulating supply on The Open Network (TON), according to data from Token Terminal, a crypto researcher. 

The uptake underscores USDT’s dominance among United States Dollar-backed stablecoins and TON chain’s rising popularity despite setbacks to Telegram, the social media platform that created TON chain in 2018. Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov, was arrested in August.

Tether’s USDT is the stablecoin of choice on many Telegram Mini Apps, which are applications that operate on Telegram’s messaging platform and settle on TON chain.

Telegram clicker game Catizen reaches 800K paying users in first 6 months

The firm claims to have 30M total users and the top revenue spot among Telegram apps.

Telegram mini-app Catizen, a tap-to-earn and play-to-airdrop gaming platform, announced on Sep. 7 it had reached a total of 34 million users in its first six months.

In a post on the X social media platform, Catizen also claimed that it was the highest earning app on Telegram with 800,000 paid users at an average of $33 average revenue per paying user.

Durov announces disabling personal geolocation from Telegram

Telegram’s “People Nearby” feature has been suspected of being a way for state authorities to locate and track dissidents.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov revealed in a Sept. 6 announcement that Telegram is cutting certain features from the platform, including media uploads to the platform’s “Telegraph” blog and disabling the “People Nearby” feature.

Durov told his followers that media uploads to the blogging platform were “misused” by malicious actors, explaining that the vast majority of the Telegram community was not abusing these features. However, Durov made it clear that the “0.001% involved in illicit activities” pose a disproportionate risk to the vast majority of law-abiding users on Telegram.

The Telegram co-founder also announced that the individual geolocation tracking would be ditched for a “businesses nearby” option. Durov likewise claimed that this personal geolocation feature was only used by a tiny minority of Telegram users.
