Vitalik says ‘at present’ his donations yield better gains than investments

The commentary came as the Ethereum co-founder denies allegations that he’s cashing out crypto for profit.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently explained that he would no longer invest in layer-2 projects and that all proceeds from selling Ether would be donated “to support public goods within the Ethereum ecosystem or broader charity.”

Buterin’s remarks came in response to questions raised by users on X.com over a recent slate of cryptocurrency transfers he’d been involved in. As Cointelegraph recently reported, Buterin was accused by crypto denizens on social media of dumping millions in Ether (ETH) for personal profit. He subsequently denied these allegations saying that “all sales have been to support various projects that I think are valuable.”

Vitalik Buterin: Bullish on Google sign-in, bearish on duels to the death

Buterin says prediction markets are better for settling beef, but Elon Musk says he’s packing historical heat.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently raised some eyebrows on social media after offering his soft support for Google’s automatic sign-in feature. But his post on dueling to the death received a lot more attention.

Buterin’s platform of choice appears to be Farcaster, where he interacts with other users on a variety of topics. In mid-August, the popular developer hosted what he referred to as an impromptu “AMA” (ask me anything), during which the topic of third-party authentication services, such as Google Sign-in, was brought up.

At the time, Buterin expressed concern over the implications of “normalizing” the idea of using services such as “sign in with Google” in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industries. “I think that’s really bad,” he wrote. However, he followed up by describing a scenario where sign-in services could serve as bridges to secure systems via under-the-hood account abstraction.

Vitalik Buterin denies selling Ether for profit

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin addresses allegations of profiting from ETH sales, emphasizing his long-term support for Web3 projects and charities.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin refuted allegations that he sold millions of dollars of Ether (ETH) for personal profit. He claimed to have sold his ETH holdings only to support various crypto projects and philanthropic initiatives.

On Aug. 30, a crypto community member on X accused Buterin of dumping over $2 million worth of Ether (800 ETH) after making a bullish tweet. Onchain analytics firm Lookonchain further suggested that the same wallet address received 3,000 ETH from the entrepreneur on Aug. 9.

Aptos network integrates Nillion for privacy-preserving apps

Aptos will be able to support confidential DeFi, private AI assistants and more.

Aptos is integrating privacy platform Nillion to support privacy-preserving applications on the layer-1 blockchain network, Nillion told Cointelegraph on Aug. 29.

Aptos will be able to support applications such as confidential decentralized finance (DeFi), private artificial intelligence assistants, secure social media, private gaming and collectibles, and more, Nillion said.

“DeFi users could benefit from private trade execution or hidden liquidation vaults, while supply chains could enhance transparency without compromising sensitive data,” according to Nillion.

Vitalik Buterin Targets DeFi Projects on Ethereum, Says He Does Not Respect Unsustainable Protocols

Dark DAOs: Vitalik Buterin explores ways to mitigate bribery threats

Proof of Complete Knowledge (PoCK) aims to prevent bribery attacks by ensuring real control over voting keys.

A group of researchers from Cornell University is investigating potential threats that could turn into “dark” voting systems in decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).

This group is formed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and PhD students Mahimna Kelkar, Kushal Babel, Philip Daian and James Austgen. Their work revolves around how to mitigate an imminent threat to decentralization as DAOs go mainstream: unified attacks against protocols through smart contracts bribery.

During the Science of Blockchain Conference held at Columbia University in early August, Cointelegraph spoke with Mahimna Kelkar about the group’s research on proofs of complete knowledge (CK) — a new cryptographic notion they introduced in 2023.
