Coinbase, KuCoin, others file crypto license applications in Turkey

As the Turkish Capital Markets Board continues to update the list and companies work to meet regulatory requirements, the Turkish crypto market is poised for significant changes.

The Turkish cryptocurrency landscape is experiencing a major transformation as prominent companies like Coinbase and KuCoin compete to obtain business licenses in the country.

This surge in applications follows regulatory updates by the Turkish Capital Markets Board (CMB), marking a critical juncture for the nation’s burgeoning crypto sector.

On Aug. 9, the CMB announced that 47 cryptocurrency companies had initially applied for licenses under new regulatory frameworks. This list, however, has now expanded to 76, with notable additions such as Coinbase, KuCoin and Gate.io.

US Marshals likely selling Silk Road Bitcoin, says lawyer

The lawyer’s claims spark questions about market stability amid the potential sale of Silk Road Bitcoin by the US Marshals.

United States finance lawyer Scott Johnsson has said the US Marshals Service (USMS) is almost certainly in the process of selling Bitcoin seized from the infamous Silk Road marketplace. 

Johnsson’s assertions are grounded in a service agreement signed between the USMS and Coinbase in June. According to Johnsson, this agreement indicates that once Bitcoin (BTC) reaches Coinbase Prime, it is a clear sign that the USMS has either sold or is about to sell these assets. 

Johnsson explained that the USMS has been sending Bitcoin to a custodial address in accordance with the agreement’s terms.

2,200 letters of support for ‘Bitcoin Strategic Reserve’ bill sent to US senators

Senator Cynthia Lummis introduced the bill on July 31, which would direct the US government to start a reserve Bitcoin fund.

Over 2,200 letters were sent to United States senators in 48 hours urging them to co-sponsor and support Senator Cynthia Lummis’s newly proposed Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill.

In a post on X, Lummis expressed gratitude for the support given to the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill.

In an Aug. 3 X post, Dennis Porter, founder of the Satoshi Action Fund, said that Democratic Party senators received 1,333 letters, Republican Party senators received 850, and Independents received 41. This bipartisan outreach demonstrates that interest in Bitcoin (BTC) and its potential strategic value crosses political and ideological lines.
