Uniswap price risks 45% crash by September despite Robinhood listing

Robinhood listing brought UNI some of its recent gains but it doesn't guarantee an extended bull run.

The latest Uniswap (UNI) chart pattern suggests that investors should be prepared for a correction after gaining nearly 20% over the past week.

A 45% UNI price crash ahead?

UNI's price has been trending upward since mid-June inside what appears to be a "rising wedge," which traditional analysts view as a bearish reversal pattern due to its history of luring bulls into buying fake-out bounces.

Therefore, rising wedges resolve after the price breaks below the lower trendline. Traders typically calculate a rising wedge's downside target by subtracting the distance between its upper and lower trendline from the breakdown point.

That puts UNI's downside target at $3.8 by September 2022, down 45% from today's price if the breakdown begins near $6.52. However, the target would shift upward to $4.65 if the breakdown originates at the apex, i.e., where the wedge's trendlines converge, resulting in a drop of 32.25% from today's price

Interestingly, a rising wedge also formed between February and April. The pattern snapped a 65% upside move, with a broader 70% price slump that took UNI's value to $3.56 per unit from around $12.50.

UNI price bullish catalysts

Simultaneously, Uniswap has also been painting an inverse head and shoulders (IH&S) pattern with an upside target sitting around $9.50, up 40% from current price levels.

The bullish setup has one fundamental backing: Robinhood.

Notably, the U.S.-based zero-fee trading app announced on July 14 that it had added Uniswap to its portfolio of cryptocurrencies for its 22.8 million retail investors.

Robinhood's listing doesn't guarantee an extended bull run, however, as the market has witnessed in Shiba Inu's (SHIB) case.

Notably, the firm's decision to list SHIB assisted the token in rising by almost 20% on April 12 but couldn't help it hold on to its gains. SHIB's price has crashed by nearly 60% since its Robinhood's listing.

Data transfer network Plaid integrates 4 major crypto exchanges

The San Francisco-based fintech company now supports Binance.US, Gemini, Robinhood and SoFi accounts.

United States data transfer network Plaid has added four major cryptocurrency exchanges to its platform, giving users the ability to more easily connect their digital asset portfolios to other applications.

Crypto platforms Binance.US, Gemini, Robinhood and SoFi are now supported by the Plaid network, the company announced Thursday. Support for additional platforms, such as Blockchain.com and BitGo, is scheduled to commence later this year.

The integrations are intended to help crypto users “bridge data portability gaps” by allowing them to securely share their account information with other applications and services. Information such as asset assets held, balances and transactions can now be shared with other services to get a more comprehensive picture of one’s personal finances.

Binance.US and Gemini are two of the most recognizable cryptocurrency platforms on the market and rank near the top of U.S. exchange volumes. Discount brokerage Robinhood began integrating crypto trading in early 2021 during the height of the bull market. SoFi, a California-based fintech firm, first launched zero-fee trading for Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC) in 2019.

Plaid currently has over 12,000 financial institutions in its network. An estimated 98 million people in the United States used Plaid’s services between 2013 and 2021. The company currently has a valuation of $13.4 billion.

In 2020, Plaid became a major acquisition target for Visa and was offered $5.3 billion in a buyout. Although the firms agreed on a merger, Visa later abandoned the acquisition amid pressures from the Department of Justice (DOJ). At the time, the DOJ’s antitrust division alleged that Visa’s acquisition plans represented an “anticompetitive merger.”

Crypto exchange FTX is looking into acquiring Robinhood: Report

Robinhood, a discount brokerage that popularized crypto trading among mainstream users, has fallen on hard times.

Cryptocurrency derivatives exchange FTX is reportedly eyeing a takeover of Robinhood Markets, the popular trading app that introduced millions of traders to Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Dogecoin (DOGE).

Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported Monday that FTX is holding internal deliberations about whether to acquire Robinhood. Although no decision has been made to pursue a takeover, FTX is said to be taking the matter seriously. Bloomberg's contact clarified that FTX has yet to approach Robinhood with a buyout proposal and that it could still decide against pursuing a deal.

Despite the onset of crypto winter, FTX has shown no signs of slowing its expansion. The exchange, headed by billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried, recently tabled a $250 million bailout offer to Bitcoin lender BlockFi. Earlier this month, FTX entered into an agreement to purchase Canadian cryptocurrency platform Bitvo for an undisclosed amount.

Amid mass layoffs in the crypto exchange business, FTX confirmed earlier this month that it would not be reducing its staff. Bankman-Fried tweeted on June 6 that his exchange plans to "keep growing" for the foreseeable future.

As for Robinhood, the discount brokerage platform has lost roughly three-quarters of its value since debuting on the Nasdaq stock exchange in July 2021. The company's share price was up 13% on Monday but is still down over 75% from its initial public offering.

Since debuting at $38 a share, Robinhood's stock price has tumbled over the past year. The stock has a market capitalization of $7.6 billion. Source: TradingView.

In the first quarter of 2022, Robinhood's net revenue declined 43% year-over-year to $299 million. Crypto-related revenue declined by 39% to $54 million over the same period.

Major crypto firms reportedly cut up to 10% of staff amid bear market

Previous crypto bear markets triggered much bigger layoffs, with some firms like ConsenSys reportedly firing up to 60% of its workforce in 2018.

Gemini, a cryptocurrency trading platform founded by brothers Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, is the latest industry firm to lay off a significant part of its staff due to unfavorable market conditions.

Winklevoss’ crypto business Gemini Trust reportedly cut 10% of its employees amid the ongoing bear crypto market, the founders wrote in a notice to employees on June 2, as Bloomberg reported.

As part of its first major headcount cut, Gemini will refocus on products that are “critical” to the firm’s mission, the brothers said, adding that “turbulent market conditions” are “likely to persist for some time.” The notice reportedly reads:

“This is where we are now, in the contraction phase that is settling into a period of stasis — what our industry refers to as "crypto winter. [...] This has all been further compounded by the current macroeconomic and geopolitical turmoil. We are not alone.”

The new report comes after a number of major industry companies fired some employees or put new hires on hold. In mid-May, the Coinbase exchange officially announced that it would slow down hiring and reassess its headcount in order to ensure it continues operating as planned.

Previously, the major crypto-friendly trading platform Robinhood fired 9% of its workforce. The layoffs came amid Robinhood’s HOOD stock touching all-time lows as part of a longer-term bear market on crypto markets.

The latest crypto industry layoffs are by no means new to the industry as major crypto markets like Bitcoin (BTC) have been historically moving in cycles, with major bear markets preceding bigger gains. Amid a massive bear market of crypto in 2018, some industry firms like ConsenSys reportedly fired up to 60% of their workforce, announcing plans to hire 600 employees afterward.

According to some sources, the current conditions of the crypto job market do not look too gloomy though. A spokesperson for the FTX crypto exchange told Cointelegraph that the firm has not cut and does not plan to lay off any of its current 175 employees at the global exchange or 75 employees at the FTX US.

According to the crypto hiring website by the Bitcoin influencer Anthony Pompliano, executives in the crypto and blockchain industry are still looking to hire people, with the PompCryptoJobs website listing about 600 open positions at the time of writing. The major global crypto exchange Binance is looking to hire nearly 1,000 employees, according to its official job openings website.

Gemini did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment.
