Ripple USD stablecoin set for trading debut tomorrow

Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin is set for its trading debut on Dec. 17 on platforms including Uphold, MoonPay, Archax and CoinMENA, the company said.

Ripple, the blockchain company behind XRP, confirmed that its Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin will begin trading globally tomorrow, Dec. 17.

RLUSD, a new United States dollar-backed stablecoin developed by Ripple, is set for a global exchange debut, the firm announced to Cointelegraph on Monday, Dec. 16.

The announcement came after the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) approved the RLUSD launch, on Dec. 10, greenlighting the stablecoin’s entrance into global financial and cryptocurrency markets.

The objective of Cycles is to “clear the most debt for the most people with the least money,” Informal Systems’ CEO Ethan Buchman said.

Informal Systems, a blockchain infrastructure firm headed by one of the Cosmos founders, has floated a peer-to-peer clearing system that would allow people to clear their debts without relying on intermediaries like clearinghouses or banks.

According to a white paper shared with Cointelegraph, Cycles aims to be crypto’s solution for clearing, a process essential in traditional banking for secure payment transfers and liability settlements.

It argues that decentralized clearing is the other side of the equation to Satoshi Nakamoto’s famous white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.”

In 2022, the Avalanche Foundation sold 1.97 million AVAX worth $100 million at the time to Terra’s foundation before its collapse. It’s now buying it all back for $45.5 million.

The Avalanche Foundation is set to repurchase 1.97 million Avalanche tokens it sold to the Luna Foundation Guard (LFG) in April 2022 a month before it’s Terra blockchain ecosystem collapsed.

The Avalanche Foundation to purchase the 1.97 million AVAX tokens for $45.5 million — which are worth $57.4 million in the market — from Terraform Labs’ bankruptcy estate.

An Oct. 9 repurchase agreement and settlement filed in a Delaware Bankrupcy Court is now pending court approval, the Avalanche Foundation said in an Oct. 11 X post.
