Uniswap Labs, UNI holders could make $468M a year from new L2: DeFi Report

Uniswap Labs and UNI tokenholders will benefit the most from Unichain, while ETH holders will likely see the biggest loss, says DeFi Report founder Michael Nadeau.

Uniswap’s new layer 2 blockchain Unichain could be a boon for creator Uniswap Labs and holders of the project’s token, potentially earning them close to $500 million a year from fees that would’ve otherwise been paid to the Ethereum network.

Unichain’s launch would see $368 million previously paid to Ethereum validators in the last year put directly into the hands of Uniswap Labs and likely Uniswap (UNI) tokenholders, DeFi Report founder Michael Nadeau said In an Oct. 13 X post.

Uniswap Labs would also be able to capture all Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) on Unchain because it owns all of the validators on the network, instead of allowing Ethereum validators to scalp MEV, he added.

Ethereum’s value accretion narrative under duress after 19% drop in ETH DApp volumes

ETH price struggles to find reasons to rally after the network’s DApp volumes drop and Ether languishes near the $2,250 support.

Ether (ETH) has struggled to break above $2,450 for more than two weeks, and the recent 17% drop in Ethereum decentralized application (DApp) activity has raised concerns, particularly as it affects the layer-2 ecosystem. Traders are now questioning whether the current $2,250 support level will hold much longer.

On the positive side, Ethereum remains the dominant platform in terms of both activity and development, although competitors are gaining ground.

Bitcoin range recovery could boost UNI, SUI, OP and HNT

Bitcoin remains below $55,724 support, but the selling may be reducing, increasing the possibility of a relief rally in UNI, SUI, OP and HNT.

Bitcoin (BTC) broke below the $55,724 to $73,777 range on Sept. 6, paving the way for a further decline to the Aug. 5 intraday low of $49,000. According to Bitget Wallet chief operating officer Alvin Kan, Bitcoin may remain under pressure until the Federal Reserve’s rate decision on Sept. 18. However, after the rate cut is announced, Kan anticipates risk assets to witness a short- to mid-term boost.

Arthur Hayes, the former CEO of the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange, who earlier speculated Bitcoin to drop below $50,000 has changed his view. He now expects Bitcoin to rally as early as next week due to increased United States dollar liquidity from the Fed.

Crypto Biz: US regulators crack down on Uniswap

This week’s Crypto Biz explores several regulatory developments targeting crypto firms, including charges against Uniswap, a delay in a decision on an eco Bitcoin ETF, and a potential challenge to FTX’s repayment plan.

A recent enforcement action in the United States has intensified the scrutiny over decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, which have largely operated within a regulatory gray zone.

Regulators again targeted the decentralized trading platform Uniswap for allegedly facilitating illegal derivatives trading. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has imposed fines and ordered Uniswap to cease the alleged violations. The move is indicative of the increasing regulatory focus on DeFi front ends as authorities seek to bring protocols into compliance with existing financial regulations.

In another headline, Bitfarms has issued a response to Riot Platforms’ recent push for changes to its board of directors, marking the latest development in the two firms’ ongoing corporate struggle.
