A customer at Wells Fargo says he was shocked to discover $4,000 in cash had been taken out of his safe deposit box – and the bank refused to reimburse the funds.

Jeffrey Temmer says he realized his safe deposit box was empty when tried to grab cash for Christmas shopping, reports Milwaukee-based FOX6 News.

“It made for a lousy Christmas… I was laying in bed for a week depressed.”

Temmer, who was up to date on his fees for keeping the box, says its keyhole appeared to have been drilled out.

“[The manager] was as shocked as I was… We went back to her desk and she was gonna do some investigating… I’ve had [the box] for years and I only keep money in there that I don’t want to touch unless I really have to.”

Temmer says for two months, he and his family asked Wells Fargo to provide a refund to no avail.

The Wisconsin man says the bank wanted a signed affidavit and a police report, which Temmer couldn’t get since the case was still open.

But Wells Fargo changed its tune after Tenner took things into his own hands and reached out FOX6 News.

A day after the news team contacted Wells Fargo, Temmer received a phone call from the bank promising a full refund. Wells Fargo also gave Temmer an extra $500 for his trouble.

The bank also issued a statement on the matter.

“We reviewed the facts of the case and are working with the customer to return to safe deposit box contents.

We sincerely apologize to our customer that our communication on this matter and the resolution did not occur sooner.”
