Shiba Inu lead developer queries Coinbase’s ‘Onchain Summer’ campaign
Kusama responded to Coinbase’s CEO, Brian Armstrong’s update with the statement, “If it isn’t a shadowcat, it’s a copycat.”
Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, has given a response to Coinbase’s Onchain Summer campaign. He suggested that Coinbase’s campaign seemed to have similarities with the ideas originally presented by the Shiba Inu community.
Kusama responded to Coinbase’s CEO, Brian Armstrong’s update with the statement, “If it isn’t a shadowcat, it’s a copycat.” On August 3, Armstrong showcased in a tweet the use of the Base bridge, launched the previous day, while highlighting Coinbase’s upcoming Onchain Summer initiative.
Coinbase is preparing to launch its Ethereum Layer 2 solution, known as Base, on the mainnet. Armstrong recently confirmed that Base is aimed at bringing the next billion users into the blockchain ecosystem. It aims to achieve this goal by offering tools for the development of various Web3 products.

In anticipation of the imminent mainnet launch of Base, the Coinbase team has organized a campaign called ‘Onchain Summer.’ The initiative, set to kick off on August 9, has brought about varied responses from the Shiba Inu community.
As stated by the exchange, the celebratory event is planned to coincide with the mainnet launch of Base. The announcement mentioned that the event would span several weeks and encompass a vibrant “festival of art, music, and gaming.”
In a previous update, the lead developer of Shiba Inu had initiated the “Summer of Shibarium” campaign last month. This campaign served as a preparation phase leading up to the mainnet launch of the L2 scaling solution, Shibarium.

Kusama hinted that Coinbase’s “Onchain Summer” initiative seemed to draw inspiration from the Shiba Inu ecosystem. However, it’s important to note that although the campaigns share similar names and concepts, their respective activities differ significantly.
The Summer of Shibarium is currently in progress, and as previously announced by the team, numerous releases have been introduced as part of the preparations for the Shibarium mainnet launch. Among the most recent developments are the Shibarium Beta Bridge and the Shibarium Youtube launch.
